im not sure if there is a such this but, and ethernet spliter.

ex. like i have one wire coming in and i wanna run it to 2 computers.

i was lookign and i found what i thought was one from reading the description but the i kinda got confused with what they were saying about the wires.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

possibly a ethernet "fast switch" may work. i have one to connect my 2 comps, and it has 5 ports. from reading those instructions you should be able to connect one port to a main network/ethernet wire and use both comps on it

were does the ethernet wire come from i.e dsl/cable modem? if it dows u need to muy a router.if it comes from another computer u need to buy a netwrokhub/switch

i have a router but its up in my sisters room and im running a comp out to my garage and my wireless get **** connection out there and i ran a wires to the basement where my dads comp is now, and the wires from my garage is coming into the basement. i dont wann running the wires up to my sisters room becuase it was just a bitch that why i was hoping i can use the cable from my sisters room that goes to my dads computer and just split it somehow..

u need to connect a hub/switch to the router then run all ur wires from the switch.hub to the other computers.or option b is to buy a **** i forget what its called but its liek one of those wireless remote extenders sorta like a box thta picks up the wireless signal then relays it so u get more range and a stronger signal

Opton 1: Get a network hub, connect it to the line coming down from sisters room, then run lines to your comp in the garage and dad's in the basement.

Option 2: get a second router, connect it to the extension jack in the original router (forget what it's called), put it near your comp, and run a line from it to your comp and your dad's.

Option 3: get a wireless router, and possibly an access point if the distance is far from your sister's room, and remove the need to run wires. Any computer that plans to use the wireless access will also need a wireless card...PCI for desktops, PCMIA (something like that) for laptops, or if the computers already have wireless capabilities you are all set.

Yes they do. I bought a Belkin for around $55 and it works great.

but my (old) laptop had probs with connecting to the router sometimes and i remember one night my friend brought over his laptop and it kept kickin him off i no longer use the wireless portion of it since i dont have a laptop...

If you have that router already, you should have a network cable running from the cable modem to the router, and then a cable running from the router to each computer. That router will allow you to connect four computers directly to it.

i know thing is router is in my sisters room, garage is 50feet from my house. sisters room is o the 2nd floor my dads computer is in the basement. i ran the wires from the garage to the basement since i already have a wire from the router running down there, i really donw wanna run the wire from upstairs to the basement again becuase it was a bitch, so i wanna split the wire thats already donw there going to my dads computer.

sorry if im not explaining it to well but i found this and idk it seems to be what i need but im not sure.

Someone correct me if I"m wrong, but I don't think those will work. It says the jack it comes from needs to be wired to allow 2 different connections...a router is only meant to connect to one computer. You'd have an issue with both computers on the internet at the same time and the data going to the wrong computer, or not going to any computer.

If running the wires was a bitch (which I'm sure they were), your best bet is to get a wireless router. It will still have the 4 ports for the computers which current run wires, and then wireless for the computers you can't run wires to. I'm not sure there is really any other option if you don't want to run wires again.

Ok, let me see if I get this all straight.

The router is in your sister's room on the second floor of your home.
There is a wire run from the router into the basement of your home for your father's computer.
There is another wire that runs from the basement to your garage, which is detached from your house.

If this is all correct, then there is a simple solution. Buy a small switch (4 or 8 port, they are relatively cheap). Hook the line that runs from the router upstairs into the basement into the switch, and then hook the line from the garage into the switch as well. Then you will just need one more line to run from the switch into your dad's computer in the basement.

what justin said. Because you already have the router, all you need is whats called a switch. The what the router does is assign IP addresses to anything connected to the network, so if you already have a router and just need more ports to connect computers to, you buy a switch. A switch does not assign IP addresses and since its less complex, its cheaper.
