			ok, I was hangin out in Long Island last week and i ran into a neighbor who has a 1995 Trans Am.. anyway, we got to talking about exhausts since his sounded insanely sweet with the SLP LM. anyway, he has a set of Shorty headers (either Hooker of heddman, im not sure) that hes gonna give me. Now i kno shorty's arent as good as Longtubes but i mean, its free. would it be worth it to put it on? would it sound deeper?Louder? performance gain? Also, wat would i need to bolt this onto my system? 
 
Any help would be appreciated guys,

			I will go against the grain here and say put them on. IF THEY ARE COATED headers.  You never want to use uncoated headers, too much heat that will melt *****.  
 
I've never seen Heedman shorties for our cars.  The Hookers super comp shorties should be coated and bolt to the stock Y-pipe.  
 
Shorties + Free = 20-25HP gain 
 
LT + $$$ = 30-35HP gain. 
 
Use the money for another mod that will yeild more then the 10 HP difference and your ahead on all accounts.  If later you decide you want or need more then go long tubes. 
 
Get the headers and figure out what brand they are and that will help with if you need anything else. 
 
Anything that increase exhaust flow such as headers or high flow Y-pipe will change the sound of the exhaust and make it somewhat louder.  Headers will not make as drastic a change as the cat back.  Gutted cats add more sound then headers. 
 
One of my first mods was to replace the stock Y-pipe ( bad cat ) with the Borla 3" Y-pipe and a high flow cat.  It increased the sound slightly.  Later I added Mac shortie headers which again made the car only slightly louder ( during this time i still ran the stock cat back ).  I felt little gain from the Y-pipe, adding headers certainly added HP. 
 
  If the headers are a different brand them you mentioned then depending on the brand they may or may not bolt to the stock Y-pipe.  I think SLP and BBK may not connect to the stock Y-pipe, but don't go 100% by my word on this, I just know they come with their own Y-pipe.  
 
 
As a way to determine what the headers may be for: 
 
 93-95 single cat set-ups, ( 93's or 94-95 headers are the same as far as where they connect to the Y-pipe).   
 
93s have different locations for the AIR fittings on the pass side.  The 93's have the AIR fitting near the #8 cylinder and no ERG tube connection.  
 
94-95 headers have the AIR fitting at the #2 cylinder and an EGR fitting back behind the #8 cylinder.   
 
96-97 will have the same AIR and EGR fittings as the 94-95, but since they are dual cat Y-piped the drivers side has a shorter distance to where it would bolt to the Y-pipe.  If I recall because of the cat the 96-97 headers have a very big/longer flang ( bolts are 4" + apart) on the D.S. header as oppose to a Pass side that are more of a triangle and 3" apart.  Oh man!  I thought he was refering to an LT1 with unknown headers.  I'm all confused.  I must be getting as old as NJSPEEDER!  
 
The LS1 stock headers flow fairly good, shorties aren't going to give you the gains like on an LT1, maybe 10-15HP is all you might get.
 
OK, so forget everything else I said! I don't have the same knowledge on LS1 cars to know the fine differences in the headers,  but 98-99 are the only year Hooker made shorties.  So if the are hookers I'd have to assume they won't fit your car anyway.  
 
 I now join the others, get them, sell them.
