correct immigration or racist ideas

So many site writers have based their arguments on how this land is
made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being
treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports
of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like
Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer.

Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to
the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line
in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their
hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the
laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made
learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some
even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new
life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father
fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany,
Italy, France and Japan. None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan.

They were defending the United States of America as one people.
When we liberated France, no one in those villages were looking for the
French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here.

These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred
the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl. And here we are in 2006 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about.

I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early
1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and
sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become
a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would
be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign
country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statute of Liberty, it
happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration
bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just
yet.

this was sent to me i see it as the right way to be about the issue jz

Amen.

These entitlement cards and all the other BS are a slap in the face to every legal immigrant that came through Ellis Island. The idiot politicians that vote on these issues oughta take a field trip to E I to refresh their memories. I have absolutely no problem with any immigrant that truly wants to obtain citizenship and to contribute to society...come on in by all means, but it's the freeloading, non-taxpaying, system abusing aliens that don't give a damn about this country that have to go.

So are you telling me when i came to this country i was suppose to forget the place i was born, the place i grew up, the place where my family and my friends live? so i can become an american? and thats the american way? are you on mother****ing crack?
Newsflash people who come into this country legally have to stnad in the same ****ing lines to even get a chance to step into this country and it cost a ****ton more then it did in the old age. My mother spend probably about 10k on all the paper work and lawyer ****. That includes standing in countless lines for hours starting at 5am. The fact of the matter is you dont have a clue what its like to immigrate to another country with nothing in your pockets and make something of yourself therefor your opinion, or any one elses who has not experienced for that matter, does NOT matter. Once you try it then get back to me and tell me what its like. If you think its easy nowdays you're ****ing retarded.

vitals, i don't think any of this is aimed towards people like you who work hard to immigrate here. the main case in point is about illegal aliens who expect to live off of our government so they can come here and preach how proud they are to be from whatever country they are from. If it was so great, go the hell back. You and your mother obviously worked your asses off to live here, go ahead and be proud of where you're from, but don't try to come here and live off of our government when there are people who were born here who deserve it moreso (not a direct hit to you, im talking in general). You even told me that you learned the language here, how many mexicans that cross the border actually make any attempt to learn english? from what i've seen, not nearly enough.

it is a shame we are not on the same page, let me explain with all of what has gone on as of late with the immigrant issue, it has a lot of people who are in the USA legally on edge and defensive chill out for a moment, the average American who has grown up in the US could care less what you do with your life, and for the most part more people will say if you have done well ( good for you dude ) i am glad for you and your mom i hope you do not loose you identity it is very important to keep it in tack , what ever you may be, but after you look back can you say the US is a better deal -- a better way of life for you and her, than i guess it was worth it, but don't confuse the terms ( legal and illegal ) i have never met anyone who has told me that they have a problem with the people who come here for a better life, and go through the system ( through the system ) like most of our grand parents did . Don't confuse the difference the fight is about illegals and only illegals who for the most part are coddled buy the system given free medical care , welfair , food stamps , lodging ect ect you know the deal you see whats going on, its all about the people who are braking the law, and for 200 years we did nothing well that is about to change and it has already not fast enough for me but its a start jz

I think what the article is saying is that people that come to this country damn well better work their asses off. I'm personally proud of my Italian and Polish/Lithuanian(yeah that's right you commie bastid ) heritage but obviously I'm American. I know for a fact that BOTH sides of my family learned the language prior to coming over here(I was fortunate enough to know my great grandparents prior to their death). I think A LOT of the rights and freedoms immigrants have are taken for granted(the illegals that is).

This country was founded on people coming from all over the world to better themselves and I don't think that should EVER change, however there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. What the government proposes to allow illegals rights is a HUGE slap in the face to my ancestors and EVERY SINGLE LEGAL IMMIGRANT WHO WENT THROUGH THE ******** OF GETTING INTO THIS COUNTRY THE RIGHT WAY. It's a spit in the face.

I also don't understand how people in this country suppose ILLEGAL immigrants becoming citizens, saying they're not criminals. I thought when you do something illegal you're a criminal? lol

I agree and disagree.

I dont have a problem with legal immigrants that come here and work their ass off, learn english and everything else. Its legal immigrants that come here dont know english dont try to learn english, and just sue, and complain.

I really want to see that 30 days appisode

Tsar, you and your mother have every right to be proud of yourselves because you did it the right way. If every immigrant came to this country the way you did, there would be no problems. It's just not fair that the illegals expect to get the same rights and services for free, when honest people like you and your mom had to jump through hoops to get here.

Even if someone does come here illegaly, but puts forth an effort to gain legal status....that's great, too. It's just sad that it seems as though the majority of illegal alliens could care less.
