For people with perfectly running cars in the car show at the nats:

Why did you choose the car show over running down the strip?...just curious, not planning on flaming unless someone says something really 'sand-filled vagina-ish'

You know dirt is so hard to get off, my car may explode. I wonder why too. I have a rare car and will run, show it anytime.

Guys showing should do a test n tune just to know what it feels like.

Driving hard <> drag racing, BTW. There are other ways to drive hard.

People do what people do, BFD. For instance, I don't get show cars, and mirrors under hoods & chrome everything, and all sorts of stuff like that, but hey, if you like it, good for you. To each his own; I don't begrudge them. That is what makes the world go around.

Maybe some people just wanted to sit around and shoot the breeze?

People break stuff when they race their cars. Most of these cars were not built from the factory to be raced, they are just performance cars. Then, if you add any more power you are open to a much higher chance of breakage. Just ask those who hurt their cars yesterday. Now, if your car is your daily driver that you need to get to work then you're royally screwed if you break it. Racing is a very expensive hobby.

Honestly I'm not gonna lie....my car is too clean at this point to be raced consistently. Granted I run it every now and then but not on a day I'm showing it. Plus I've got a major oil burning issue right now...about a quart every 100 miles! Come next season I'll have the engine sorted out and hit the track atleast once a month.

I did both Coulda possibly ran better if I remembered to plug in an important vaccum line and adjusted the shocks for drag.

i don't buy into the whole "parts break whiel racing" thing. my old engine let go at 30mph, hardly a racing speed.
every car that is built may not have been specifically designed for racing, but they were all built with the knowledge that they could/would be called upon for some WOT acceleration. if it wasn't true, the car companies wouldn't design tb's/carbs that open all the way up.
personally i have never had a car leave me at the track for any reason. i have messed up a few parts before(used to break rear shocks regularly autocrossing), but nothing that would prevent the car from driving or i couldn't have messed up jsut cruising around town.
that being said, i can certainly appreciate a clean, well prepared show car. it is not my first choice of how to use a car, but i still see it as a legitimate use because i see cars as moving pieces of art. i jsut accept that some artwork moves faster than others

Well remember that putting a diverse group together of this club, the only real common interest is the cars, not how you use them. Not everyone is into working on their machines to the same level, racing, cruising, and shows. If you look at the numbers there were almost as many cars in the show as in the staging lanes. I think that says allot about the club's diversity.

I really like the idea of a T~n~T day as a great way to introduce people to the drag strip. I would certainly be willing to help. With the racers we have in this club that would be one cool clinic! I'm sure there were a few people that could have been intimidated or whatever about making their first runs in front of the club or against some of the heavy hitters out there? Same can be said for detailing cars. I think my car looks OK ( less the paint ), I got some nice details in the engine and interior, but I certainly wouldn't have wanted to be parked in the show next to the white IROC or the Blue Prostreet car!

As far as those opting not to race, well you have to be ready to pay if you break, if your not willing to take that chance, can't afford to pay that price, or feel you have the skills, then you shouldn't be on the race track until your ready. Tim, concider yourself lucky, I have left my share of rods, pistons, trans parts, drive shafts etc. on a few tracks during my day.

To me the question everyone should be asking isn't if you have a running car why didn't you race. Its WHY WEREN'T YOU THERE? There are how many members in the PA, NJ area in this club and how many showed up to support the clubs yearly event? I live over 100 miles from the track, drove there, then home, then back to Ewing last night for work today. 387 miles total. So where was everyone else?

I retired my 70 SS from racing at the end of the 2004 season. I have owned that car since 1985 and have been racing it ever since in one form or another, even with the original motor, heads, trans, and rear. I ran the piss outta that thing for years. It's time to take it easy on the ole girl now. That's why I built my 79 Z. If there was a way I could have towed up both cars, I would have. One in the show, one on the track. Someday, when I make the big bucks, I will haul both cars up and have some fun rippin' gears with you guys. Until then, it's showtime!!

I probably would have been racing provided my car was running at the time. The car hasn't looked its best recently so theres not point in washing & waxing to sit next to something that makes my car look worse!

Im not crazy about racing all the time because my car is a daily driver and my only mode of transportation. If anything breaks I am F*d I can't rely on using any other cars in the house. The way I drive my car is nothing compared to the abuse I would put it through at the track.

I live 2.5 hours away, we stayed up there for the weekend. If I had looked out the window on Sunday morning from my home I would not of drove up.

If you own a nice show car you can afford something if it breaks. We have AAA in case something happens. Running it a few times won't kill it. Look at the nice blue second gen car, he showed it and ran it. My God did his world end.

I didn't run because I didn't feel like it. It's a stock 305 tpi, not going to be fast probably in the 15.2-15.7 range. I'm not new to the track at all, I goto atco regularly recently I've just been racing the monte.

Well off to the headers and exhaust...

I've raced before at island (when my car was new) and it's fun as hell, but my SS is my daily driver plus the stock ten bolt is made of glass. So no race for me until I put in a 12-bolt... hey... ill trade someone a 12-bolt for some Kuston paint... eh?... eh?

the car is slow, i allready know that no need to prove it with a slip. When i start doing things to it, then i'll run it. I go to the track enough, i really only race when i do different things to the car or i'm playing with the tuning to see if i made it better or worse.
