wow, i had a 78 f250 with a rear setup like that, i sold the truck quickly, if i had kept it, i would have had custom full-lift springs made and ripped those blocks out before i would have driven it off road. If you do take the thing offroading, keep an eye on those, they are a weak link.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be replacing those with some quality lift springs. I'm not a fan of lift/lower blocks and with the pinion angle on this sucker it doesn't need anymore help wrapping up the axle.

Thanks for the link LT. I'll have to check it out. It's funny but I didn't ever look at the quad the whole time I was out there! So you're in Browns Mills? My parents and little bro' live there. I hear there's some good trails in that direction.

I not an expert on diesels, but I bought a 1997 Dodge over the summer with the older 12V Turbo Cummins and its a nice on lots of different levels. Good on fuel, plenty of power, and reasonaby quick for a 3/4 ton Ext. Cab 4x4. I don't have any experience with the Duramax or the newer 6.0L Powerstrokes. Check out www.turbodieselregistry.com for info on all the cummins/dodge stuff and swap info. An older 12V Cummins might be a good candidate because there is no computer controls, it all mechanical injection, which might make for an easier swap. The 24V Cummins, the newer Powerstrokes and the Duramax all are more powerful, but have the added complexity of computer controled injection systems and such. Just a thought.

Good luck and have fun
Chris

And if you do need to do the stability test to make it a daily driver, that will cost some money to set up right. It might make a great farm vehicle, but be prepared for $$ to get it on the road. I'm sure that's why the guy is selling it.
its a triangle inspection sticker, when it is insured it cant be a primary driver, all lights, speedo and horn have to work (not 100% about the horn), but it is safety and emissions exempt! it also cant be driven over 2500 miles a year.

a buddy of mine had a 69 pickup on 38's, he had a lot of lift, probably around the same height as that one, and also had blocks in the rear. the truck had a 350 and a 4speed, he could do burnouts on the cement and you could watch the rear separating from the blocks from the spring wrapping up. we wheeled the **** out of it and didnt have any problems, but i would still reccomend changing it. he also couldnt find a locker for the eaton. i would save the $ and effort and stick with the 350.

cool truck good luck with it.

Yeah, I have the same registration on my camaro. They didn't check anything other than the odometer (I had no working signal lights or brake lights!) and I had my regular insurance (non-collector). I passed with no problems. The only requirements are that you stay under 3000 miles a year and you need to keep the printout they give you with your mileage on it as proof for the next time time renew the registration. No use restrictions are placed on it by the DMV (the collector insurance agencies require that you keep it in a garage, have a separate daily driver and only drive it to shows and for pleasure on the weekends) other than the mileage. I also checked with the insurance I have for my other cars and they will insure a collector vehicle, no problem. Granted, they won't give me what I would get from a place like Hagerty, but I have all the driving freedom I want (as long as I disconnect the speedo ) for only a few bucks more a year.

The truck is gonna be lowered significantly before I take it out. The body lift is coming out first and foremost, then the lift blocks. The 44's are going down to 38's for a total drop of 10" from where it's at now. The front gears are going in with maybe an air locker, some miscellaneous body work and some bull bars and winches front and back. That's all I really want for it for now. Also, I haven't found much info about that Eaton rear end. If I can't find any good stuff for it, I might have to swap it out for a 14-bolt.
