				Possible Trade, Need Opinion

As some of you know, I've been scouring the net looking for a possible 2nd gen thats in my price range. I have a 3rd gen, but would like to sell /trade it for a 2nd gen TA. The link below is for a 79TA in New Egypt, NJ that a guy is willing to trade. I haven't contacted him yet, however I am considering it.http://www.transamcountry.com/forum/...ic.php?t=30124
Does that look like a running project car that could be fixed up enough to drive as a weekend cruiser? I know money is an issue, I am just looking for something that I could workon myself with the occasional help from board members. I don't have enough experience with the engine bay of a 2nd gen to know if it looks like a hack job, or if its in decent enough shape.

Normally I would place a value on that car around 4k, however with all the mods and shoe-horning he had to do with the engine, the interior work that needs to be done, and the awful condition of the paint, I don't think its worth even that much.

Opinions wanted.

If the car is as solid as he says, I would go for it. It's what you want......

If the motor and trans are in good shape it may be worth it if that's the car you really want. Figure a good 3-5k for a decent paintjob that'll look good from 5 feet away. Add another 500-1,000 for interior work. And throw another $1,000-$1,500 into the mix for misc stuff.

Thanks for the heads-up guys. Paul the numbers seem reasonable, but with my awful schedule, it'll take time to accumulate the money and get the work done. Plus if the exhaust still needs to be hung, I'll have to work with you on that.
Scott, I definately want to look at it first before offering a trade. He may not even accept it. Who knows? But the earliest I could do it is the 2nd or 3rd weekend in January.

I think at this point all I can do is tell the guy I am interested. If the car is still there in January, I'll look it over. Of course a case could be made for the 3rd gen - it runs and is road worthy once the exhaust leak is fixed. All that remains is cosmetic work.

 Decisions, decisions.

I would contact him and let him know you are interested. Give him a brief description of your car, and see if it's something he'll want.

I'd suggest looking at the car or at least the pics closely and figure out what is needed that he doesn't have the parts for, then look into pricing on replacement parts. Looks like the dash and door panels are shot. Double check because sometimes the things you think are nickle and dime stuff end up costing a whole lot more!

Thanks for the help guys. I posted my interest to his thread so we'll see where it goes. I won't be able to do anything until the 2nd or 3rd weekend of January anyway.
