taking out the t/c

Hey guys, i need some help, Im trying to pull my engine and just my engine, I want to use the 700r4 thats in the car.. I got one t/c bolt off, I went to get the other one, and the tc would just spin till the bolt was unable to be reached leaving the other bolt i couldnt get to, So i tried smokingss's plan, to use the crank bolt, i did that and the tc would move, but then when i went to the bolt it would do that again, finally as i was under the car and my buddy spinning the crank bolt, the crank bolt snapped. I tried moving the flexplate with a screw driver, it would work for a bit, but then it would stop, thats the samething when i turned the motor by hand, the tc/flexplate would move a tad, a tad a tad, then stop stop then a little more..how do i get this to come off, am I going to need to pull the trans out? will i ever be able to use the trans again?

Yes you can, just have to pull the motor forward more with the tc on there still before u lift it up and out.

the way i would show you is -- if the motor is broken in side as its my guess why it wont turn and now you have broken off the front crank pulley bolt - loads of fun taking it out if you had to -- but do it this way --- you will be leaving the TC on the engine for the removal as you cant get the bolts off - put the enging hoist on to the chain my guess you will be pulling it out with jack the motor up a very small amount so to take the weight off it a very little , put the floor jack you probly dont have under the trans pan with a 2X4 wood accross the pan so you dont dent it and jack it up so you take up any of its weight off it -- now remove the entire clam shell or what ever type mount you have in the front of the engine on both sides all of it to the cross member so the motor wont get hung up on the mount as you will need to slide the engine foward to exit the TC from the bell housing - keep in mind as you take weight off the front of the car it will be going in an upward direction and the TRANS jack will also have to be jacked up so as the engine wont bind on anything else -- its not to diff if you just take care to look as you are doing it all so you dont bend or brake anything you will need to reuse also remove the starter as it wont allow this operation as well -- i am sure i have forgotten some thing but this should get you close -- jz

UBG came over to give me some advice and to walk me through some things. With his input I decided Im going to remove the motor and trans, I unhooked shifter linkage, speedo cable, then moved all the way back to unhook the driveshaft, got two bolts out from it and realized I cant get to the two because of my tourque arm, Tomorrow Im going to try and remove the torque arm from the back and get to the top, If that doesnt work Im going to hook the linkage back up, and roll the car back a foot or so.

When the motor is out, Ill be using a monkey rench to turn the crank, If that doesnt work Ill have to brain storm!

to turn the DS, put the trans in N by moving the lever on the trans by hand 2 notches, then just jack the rear off the ground and turn it by hand, no need to roll the car.

you push the converter towards the tranny, then pull the tranny away from the motor, then the tq will fall off

Wait....are you still pulling the engine and trans together, or did you change your mind again?

I'm with Bob - I say pull them both. It's easier than trying to get to bellhousing bolts in the car. Do what Paul suggested to get all 4 bolts that hold the driveshaft in off. Get someone to stand behind the car and hold it when you click it into neutral. You'll only have to move it a little bit to get the bolts to where you can undo them. Should be less than a foot.

Is it just stuck, or is it an odd size that you don't have a wrench/socket to fit?

I think it was more of The way the engine is sitting, and being stuck.

if you start moving the motor trans combo around with only one bolt the alloy case of the trans will snap off put some of the other bolts back in than loosen the tight one and than take them all out together -- jz
