Look into some of the smaller all-inclusives. I went a few years ago and stayed at a smaller dive resort. It was very nice, the people were great, and it wasn't nearly as packed as the super-resorts next door. The island is gorgeous, and if you dive, it'll be very hard to find anything better.

We will also be going to Cozumel for the first time in February. I have heard that it is nice as long as you stick to the main areas.

I've been to Cozumel, but it was just a day trip off the cruise ship.

I actually was only on Cozumel for a short while, we took a ferry to playa del Carmen (mainland) and then a bus ride down to Tulum to visit the ruins. I'd highly recommend checking the Mayan ruins out if you go.

I was there a few summers ago and it was very nice. Definitely somewhere I would go again.

I can always get him to go on a cruise. Food available around the clock. Haha.

My parents went last year and loved it. I think i remember they mentioned that they were their the last year that they were allowing tourists to walk up the ruins.

Most of the publicized tours of the ruins will take you to places where you won't be allowed to touch them. If you hook up with local private tour guides they can take you to other locations where you would be able to climb them.

I think it's mostly due to fears of vandalism. The ruins we saw last January had been vandalized not long before we were there, and they had fences up around them.
