I agree. Its one thing to drive the car and double check everything is running ok and another just to take the car for a joy ride. I wouldnt take the sttlement from the shop and have them take my car and make more money off the parts he could salvade of of it. They were totally wrong and she should sue for a new car.

its usually expected for a shop to test drive the car to make sure all is well in the vehicle.

The whole situation sucks. In my personal experience there is no reason to "enjoy" a customers car after you have completed the work the mechanic is supposed to be a professional and joy riding is not in that job description.
I try to drive customers' vehicles as little as possible. I have been rear ended in a customers car less than one mile from the shop while sitting at a red light. Although it was not my fault and I was performing a legitimate test drive, I still felt crappy about it and wound up giving all the work I just did to the customer for free. Although the car got fixed by the same body shop that I let work on my personal car and the customer was totally happy (and is still a customer, now just a better one) I would have rather it not happened at all.
It is from experiences like this that when I feel it is nessissary to drive a customers car outside of my normal 1-2 mile test route I will usually contact that customer and ask permission. If I feel the need to "enjoy my work" I have no problem asking the customer if they will go for a ride with me to give the car a beat down run. Usually they agree without hesitation but it is not a thing that is done often or without them sitting in the passenger's seat.
Basiclly, everyone screws up at some point or another, its how you deal with it that makes the difference. If the owner can find a way to make everything right and the customer is satisfied that is great and hopefully they (as a shop) can learn a lesson from this.
And Tony, I am gonna let that vette have it next time you bring it by so thered better be a full tank of premimum and a fresh set of tires on the thing!!!!!  J/K!

This made me sick to my stomach. I know it has been done to me that a shop has driven my car and leave my tank empty in the process. Its sickining

Thats pretty standup.
Unfortunately, this is not even close to the first instance this shops screwed people over. I even took my car there to get VATs tuned out. I had an appointment and he took someone else before me. Thank god I didn't drop it off, from how it seems they take care of cars.

what makes him think that she should trust CAM with her car again after what happened the first time?
regardless of if he offered to settle up for the value of the car and get another car back to the previous condition, he shoudl not be allowed to do the work. to defend himself by saying that he wouldn't want to pay someone else to do the work when he has a shop is retarded. if he ran a good shop this never would have happened in the first place.
i know every shop has issues and there are certainly misunderstandings in this world, but i wouldn't trust that clown with a huffy much less a $40k + mods car.

That really sucks about that girls car!! I would be beyond pissed...there is no excuse for that!! I wouldnt trust him doing work on her car again either!!!

If I took my baby to someone to be worked on, upgraded, or painted and this happened, or it was stolen,you wouldn't hear about it. There's over a million acres in the pine barrens. Plenty of places to put some M'Fer in a whole world of pain and dig 'em a shallow grave to take a nice dirtnap.
