Stewart himself didn't sell out, the team did. AFAIK he's locked into a contract with the team, so he wouldn't necessarily have much say in the matter.

HE didnt ditch Chevy, it was Joe Gibbs that signs the contract for what manufacturer they run. He has no say in what they drive, and im sure Toyota came to them with a fatter check then Chevy did so they are runing Toyota's now. Ill give you a good reference in why drivers go along in what they drive.
In formula 1, when Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost were teammates, Honda favored Ayrton over him and gave Ayrton better products and more enthusiasm becuase ayrton was happy for the combination of the teams when they were formed together when they became teamamtes. Alain wasent happy that they were getting a new car company with the team and the entire Honda racing program itsself didnt care for Alain. so moral of the story is keep your mouth shutand youll be jsut as competative as your teammate,
so dont hate someone for something that was out of their hands, look at the fact before you judge someone.
