header/steering shaft clearance issue...
95 lt1 camaro. pacesetter midtubes with a y. bank tubes 3 and 5 hit the steering shaft so bad, i can't get it back on. do i have a shi....defective header? its not like minimal either. i am nowhere near the rack or column. i can get on one side and thats it. its almost 1/2" from the rack if i connect the column first. i buzzed a little metal off the shaft and it still hits bad. i tried pulling the collector away from it with no results. i was considering notching the tubes but i really don't want to restrict the flow so close to the head. any ideas out there? are there custom steering shafts available? oh and bank tube 5 hits the lower mount for the u-joint while bank tube 3 hits the sleeve that connects to the lower portion of the shaft. i think i'm SOL!

If you bought the headers new then I would call Pacesetter tomorrow and get them to exchange the one defective header and send you a new one..
If not you are going to need to take a Hammer to the primary pipes

link what about a BMR bolt-in rack? it says the steering is relocated 1 inch farther from the manifolds. and they make a kit that converts a power rack so i don't have to buy their k-member or replace mine. its my daily driver though, and i have 17" wheels up front. would this arise safety/drivability issues? i have driven manual steering through parking lots at low speeds and it does suck but its doable.

True, but you'll prolly get better results with a phone call.

Check your motor mounts if they are worn out and sagging the engine will sit lower in the frame and cause clearance issues.

woo..saggy motor mounts! Its great how you can see the difference when you put the old one alongside the new mount. now if only you didn't stay out till 830am we could be doing all that stuff!
