Engine repower and emmisions

This may sound crazy and if you see any gaping holes in my plan please let me know. So as now, my car will never pass emissions, its how I set it up and I am not concerned with emissions till next July. My plan was to rebuild the shortblock for forced induction and run a more emissions friendly cam. However, I just relized that the 96 LT1s were OBDII. So if I were to repower with a 96 block and run OBDII, would I still get a sniff test or would it be just the plug and play deal?

Wait so that makes sense? They would just check the computer and I could be all cool like the LS1s???

96+ are OBD-II "plug-in" tests. as long as there is no check engine light and all the monitors are set (couple other things too) you are good to go. get that crap tuned out

But how would they know to check the computer vs the sniff test?

Well thats the whole idea. If I repower with a 96 OBDII can they tell? and then just plug in?

nope. the vin will still be for an OBD-I vehicle so they will not know if you converted or anything. even if you did convert it, its still a 95 so you will be a tail pipe test. converting to an OBD-II car would be rediculous.
