It is built into your BCM which is the same BCM as all 97-02 cars which one you need would depend on if you have anti theft, keyless entry or not

Your BCM is located on the passenger side behind your glove box.

A GM Tech 2 scanner ,Autotap and a few other common scanners have the ability to scan for BCM codes..
Those generic scanners that Autozone lets you use for free, to my knowledge do not have the ability to scan for BCM codes.

You can also run BCM diagnostic codes without a scanner by turning your key ON
Then OFF
Remove your radio fuse
Turn your key back to Accessories for 5 seconds and your BCM will beep
"The Beep is the same noise you hear when your lights are left on, Key is left in the ignition ect.. that sound comes out of your BCM."
After you hear it beep Turn the Key OFF
Then Immediately back to Accessories
The BCM will beep again followed by the Security Light on your Cluster
will start flashing the codes.
1 flash pause 2 flashes that is a code 12 which = BCM Diagnostic System Check
It will do that 3 times then it will start flashing out the BCM Trouble codes..

Sorry I do not have the actual codes Memorized to list them because there is specific codes for options like keyless entry and ect but that will get you started..

You can also take your dash apart so you can see the BCM
And look for a Dark blue wire going from the BCM to your Stereo that is what supplies power to your stereo you could always check the pin on that wire and see if it is loose on the BCM side.
I forget what color the power windows are.

But judging by what you are experiencing my guess is that you need a new BCM because that is what supplies the power to your stereo, interior lights and your power windows..
Use the parts numbers on the post I gave you the link for and see howmuch it costs at Gmpartsdirect.com
I think they run $150-350

But let me know how you make out electrical problems suck

which one do you need with or without keyless entry?
The BCM part# with keyless entry is still good it shows $148
The BCM without keyless entry they probably changed the part number

well i have a write up from a chevy dealer i used to work for and the parts guy gave me a list of all the options my car came with from the factory (used my vin) and its saying i have code AU0 - remote keyless entry ... now when i bought the car 3 years ago it never had a remote with it... iv just been using the key in the door and turning the key to run so they car doesnt start to beep from anti-theft kicking in... im hoping even if they changed the number that they can cross reference the number... i guess i might order a remote with it too so that i can use that also since i dont have one now... and its saying my car should have one... where is the reciever located for the keyless entry or is that part of the bcm too?

The keyless entry receiver is built in to the BCM on 96-02 F-bodys.
I have the 93-02 Gm f-body parts disk for these cars..
I used the Body Control Module (BCM) (w/ keyless entry receiver) 97-02 #9353691 In my buddys 97 F1 Camaro..
Along with 2 new remotes..
Gmpartsdirect has it listed for $148 but I guess it wouldnt hurt to cross reference if you want
I doubt any local dealer will beat that price though when my buddy got his it was $250 I think..

hmm ok... yea ill call the dealer first because working for the body shop i get things at cost... so maybe ill get a break on that... plus i want to make sure i get the right part too id rather not mess around because most of the time electrical parts are no returnable... i just hope they give instructions or somthing because i dotn want to mess the installation of this thing up.... like i said this is all new to me i never had to do one of these before... then i guess i can reprogram the remote to the new BCM? how ever you do that...

Yeh the directions for programming the remote are in that post I gave you the link to on here.
Those are the basic lock and unlock functions with the remote
For the other remote options it is in any 97-02 Owners manual

well... i replaced the BCM on wed of last week... and i drove it that night, thurs night, and i took ot for a ride today... and my windows and radio have yet to cut out... so im pretty sure that its fixed.... again to the guys that helped me thank you... because i was lost (but i guess thats how you learn)... everything seems to be working fine... its funny on alldata the first thing it says under BCM is "the bcm is a very reliable part and rarely goes bad so your problem is most likely elsewhere in the wiring or somthing" haha not in my case... anyway thanks again to the fellas that helped out...
