Need Help with my 70 camaro
Hi all,
I just got my first car and its a 70' SS. I'm 22 and don’t know much about restoring the car but I’m willing to learn. It has a new engine 350 HP, 700r4 transmission and a whole bunch of other stuff. The car struggles when it starts and it struggles to turn off. I would really appreciate if you guys can give me some tips on restoring the car.Thank you

Wow, a 70SS for your first car! Got a pic?
As far as your issues- what condition is the carburator in? It sounds like it needs a rebuild, or at the very least a tune.

probably needs what wildbillyt said. did you check the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and fuel filter for wear/age? sounds like a typical carb hiccuping.

my guess is he is having issues with the starter backing up on the motor ( timing to advanced ) and post ignition when he shuts it off it keeps running < the kind of old issue you do not get with the new stuff BUT i could be wrong - jz

Agree, start with a good old fashion tune up. Plugs, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter, spray some carb cleaner and set the timing, check vacuum hoses.
OMG! what type of distributor does it have. You might have to set the dewell on the points. Man it's been allot of years since I had to do that! I bet I still got the tools..... Somewhere... ???

The carborator is a new Elderbrock AVS thunder.
It also has a new MSD streetfire HEI distributor

Sounds like a carb issue or timing issue, could be as simple as matching up a spread bore to square bore carb to manifold without the proper gasket. If your comfortable doing things yourself pick up a Chilton's troubleshooting/tune up book, a vacuum gauge, and have at it.

Start with checking the timing. Then make sure the carb isn't adjusted open too far so fuel keeps dripping out. It looks like the car is probably a plain 70 with stuff added to it to make it look like an SS. A true SS car would have a 12 bolt rear and the 3 piece tall spoiler isn't original. It looks like a nice car to start with.

Go pick some local help from over at www.nastyz28.com.
Nice car. Looks like its going to need some rear metal work, some new shocks, and some rims with more backspacing 
Interior looks really good. Engine doesn't look none too bad.
I too say the timing is too advanced, causing the 'dieseling' when it won't shut off. Just a small turn clockwise should fix it some if you don't have a timing light. And I mean a SMALL amount too....while its running....
