Thumbs up Remembering Our Troops All Year Long

I posted this originally in the Thread on the Christmas push to remember our Troops, but felt that maybe it got lost in the frenzy going on in that Thread, so here's some information on how to really make our deployed Troops feel they're not forgotten, all year long. Go to http://www.adoptaplatoon.org/ and sign up to be either a Platoon supporter, which among other things entails sending 'Care Packages' to your adopted Platoon, or sign up to become a 'Pen Pal', which only entails writing to your assigned Soldier for the term of their deployment. If you don't think the Troops appreciate even just a Letter, well, they do, in fact, my assigned Soldier called me from Iraq to thank me for writing to him. PLEASE, don't just get all hyped up around the Holidays about our Troops, and then go on your merry way, these guys and gals really are hungry for contact from the States all year long, and they need personal items all year long. So PLEASE, check out that URL above, and really do something our Troops will appreciate.

Being Deployed takes a toll on you physically and mentally. A letter once and a while eases tension and gets the mind away from stress. I personally was in the Army for 3 years and now have about a dozen friends deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't nearly right to them as much as I should but I do try. Do your best and make a new friend or send a care package.... Especially our boys in the Ranger Battalions they do work and then some.

And don't ask what its like to kill someone.... cause the first thing you feel when you do.... is the recoil of your weapon

Yeah, one of the soldiers in my unit signed up for this program the last time I was deployed and we all enjoyed getting the occasional package. So... I just signed up!

Thumbs up

Great, I hope more people on this Board sign up. While I have not been in the military, nor do I have any family in the service, I still felt I should do something to let our deployed Troops know that they are not forgotten. Maybe it's because I have such a revulsion for the way our Vets returning from Vietnam were treated when I was a teenager.
