opinions on this...?

So i met this guy today to trade my 95 v6 camaro for his 94 jeep cherokee. we met up and talked about both cars and everything titles in head. decided to do the trade straight up. now i looked his truck over real good and took it for a spin before buying it, he decided it wasn't necessary to drive my camaro before making the trade. he seemed like he wanted it no matter what was wrong. anyway we signed the titles and left i went home in the jeep and he took my camaro. i get home, and about a half hour later he calls me and says that he's broken down on the side of 295, he has a flat that the car started smoking real bad and he discovered there was no trans fluid in it. I'm thinking this is ridiculous, i NEVER had a problem with the trans, fluid was ALWAYS on the stick and i flushed in multiple times in it's life. anyway he seems to think the trans is gernaded now and he says if it is "we need to talk". now my question... do i have any legal responsibility to reverse the trade? my dad says after the titles are signed it's out of my control. I'm leaning towards that but just wondering what you guys think.

You traded it to him AS IS, with NO WARRANTY. He passed up the offer to take it for the test drive. It's not your fault, and you should not feel guilty about it.

So to put it bluntly, he is **** out of luck.

if he has the title and it was signed over, it is his car and his problem.

The trans fluid thing is very funny, an automatic wouldn't move if there wasn't any fluid in it. So I am gonna have to call BS on that one.

Once he drove it away, you're not responsible. You have no idea how he treated it once he was behind the wheel. He could have been beating the piss out of it from the moment you parted ways. And since he didn't take it for a test drive, or at least pull the dipstick before driving away in an unfamiliar car, he has no ground to stand on.

I had the SAME EXACT thing happen with a guy I sold my old Supra to. TPI Monte covered it pretty good.

i figured he would pull some crap and try to make out on top. very suspicious that he opts not to test drive the car then it breaks on his way home. so i would define that as a scam.

his car=his problem

Your not a dealership...theres no warranty. If I bought a car and it broke down, it would be on me...I wouldn't try to get the previous owner to pay for it. He could have knocked a hole in the pan himself for all you know. It sounds very sketchy, try to stay away from him...it may be difficult to get rid of him if he wants to pursue this.

hes out of luck but just make sure you have the title transfered into your name cause he could just file for lost title and screw u and report it stolen

second that - get the title in your name in no time flat.

that's why it is so important to test drive a car before you sign. afterwards, even if the car blew up with him in it and his heirs wanted to file a wrongful death suit, they'd be S.O.L.

That guy can still try to screw you over. If you just signed the title over without going through the DMV then that car is still in your name. He could park it in places that will get the car ( you ) tickets or get the car impounded. All of this could cost you money in the long run.
