Dealership Agravation!!

My daily driver, 08 Colbalt Sport, has been grinding going into 4th gear; the dealer and they said it has a bad syncro. I wait two weeks for the parts to come in and drop it off. Their mechanic has problems repairing it and needs to order a shaft, 3rd and 4th gears. Four days later I get the call that the car is done.

So I get into the car and the five speed feels REALLY stiff, but I back out of my space and try to put it into first gear but it doesn't go. I try second, it doesn't go either, so I manage to get it into 3rd so I can pull back into my parking space. So I go inside and tell service that I can't get it into any low gears. The mechanic says I know 1st and 2nd are stiff but he was able to get it into gear. I asked him to try again and he couldn't.

So I'm waiting more today and probably a few more days for them to get it right. Not feeling all warm and fuzzy about their repairs though.

If you have the Aisin transmission I have a similar problem. Mine has never had work though. When it is cold out (like it is now) i have a VERY difficult time trying to get into 2nd gear whether I am moving or stopped....

There's a service bulletin for Cobalt's grinding into 3rd or 4th gear. It sounds like what they already did to your car tho. It's bulletin number 08-07-29-001C.

Thanks for the info.

Hopefully other people's cars have more than 3 gears after the "repair".

I have repaired a few of the supercharged cobalt units for a local scca race team. They are a Saab transmission. If I had known that I probably never would have agreed to touch them, but since I do all thier Corvette T-56 boxes they kinda twisted my arm[no one else would touch them] Now that I have done a few they really are not that bad, however they do have a crush collar and if you do not follow procedures you will have trouble. I have also done some of the getrags too. Not sure what's in the turbo deal? we rented a sport while at the Pri show in florida last month with an auto, real nice car plenty of power a few small complaints like lifting the arm rest to use the e-brake,seat belt hard to get buckled in, maybe time to diet more? i'm not that tall and didn't have much head room. but over all I really liked it. Good luck in getting it fixed. Bob

Went to pick up the Cobalt again last night and I have 2nd thru 5th, but it is still not going into first gear without a fight. They've had the car 8 days now to replace the syncros.

Mechanic #1 tells me that it shifts like butter and he doesn't understand the issue. Mechanic #2 takes it for a test drive and says he can't get it into first either.

They did say that they are going to have a different mechanic on the car. So maybe he'll be able to fix it. If anyone is looking for work there may be an opening at a Chevy dearship in the Hackettstown area in the near future.

why are they being so cheap, why dont they just replace the whole unit. And IMO, thats why theres repair shops, and then theres transmission shops. If you gotta keep taking it there, I call Lemon Law!!! lol
