iPod help

Ok, my father's gf bought him an iPod classic and uploaded some music onto it from her Mac laptop.
He now wants to sync it to the iPod to his computer. Apple tells him he is SOL and that he is gunna lose the songs.

I thought that you were allowed a few computer transfers as if you were to buy a new computer and you wouldnt lose your songs? Any help?

there are some online programs that allow you to transfer all of your music from one pc to another, not free of course but it works and it worked for me.

You can have it on to upto 5 computers. You have to validate other non primary computers though. I have my library on two different laptops, and the way it happened for me was - I just plugged in my Ipod to a different laptop and it told me can't its gonna erase all my music. Somewhere in the options (or maybe it pops up automatically) there's a way to validate another computer by just inputting your itunes password.

Sorry for ****** explanation, I dont remember how I did it, but I know its possible. Maybe try to search on Apple's website?

edit: and i learned never to listen to the apple technicians, they are idiots.

yeah i dont know about macs. on a pc it would read your ipod, you can go to my computer and see your ipod there, and drag your files onto that and it would be on your ipod. it would work as a flashdrive sort of

Music files don't need to be altered at all, iTunes for PC and Mac both work with the same file types.

There are 3rd party software programs out there that will let you copy the music directly from the iPod to your Dad's PC with ease.

When I grabbed songs from another iPod (from Mac) I just connected the iPod like ususal, but stopped iTunes from doing anything, went into My Computer and explored the iPod as a Hard drive and just copy & pasted the music into a directory. It might be hidden but its definitely there.

iPods are either formatted for Apple or PC, they cannot be both. If you initially set it up to sync to an apple computer it will not be able to sync to PC. In order to get it to sync to PC you have to reformat the iPod and sync to PC, so yes you would lose all the songs on it. AFAIK anyway, there are programs that allow you to save songs from your iPod to your computer, but if it's apple you can't connect to PC and same goes the other way. You can have up to 5 computers authorized for your library, and you can have 4 or 5 iPods on 1 computer.

That's why you use the transfer program to get the music off the Apple-formatted iPod and onto your PC, then reset it and sync it with your PC to get all of your music (including what just came off the iPod) back on it
