an aggressive metal filer and some elbow grease will do the trick. I've heard that grinding down calipers can affect your stopping power, is this true or just folklore?

False. You are taking the cooling properties off of it though.

I just used an angle grinder and soft aluminum pads and went to town. It takes for friggin ever. And clean up when you are done cause the dust will leave rust spots after it rains.

This is what mine look like now...

have fun with that, it took me hours with an electric grinder...........

bob it is best he does it on the car, because you want to take off as LITTLE as possible and still get the job done.

the way to do this, is to grab a can of spray paint you have laying around, and as you take metal off, spray a light coat on bolt on the wheel and spin.... it will remove the paint from the areas that still need it.

another thing, when i put in my 12 bolt with c-clip eliminators, i had to grind even more off the calipers...
