failed inspection
well i took the bronco through inspection today and well i failed for emissions which i was kinda figuring. i noticed the other day it looked like a door was cut in the cat and welded back. so instead of rigging up my exhaust for a new cat i ordered me a direct fit magnaflow cat with y and a pacesetter tfx dual same side exit exhaust.

sounds nice...is it a lifted bronco? my bro has a lifted 89 jimmy with a turbo 400 trans, 4.56 gears, 4 inch lift, and 36" swamper TSL's...he said hes afraid to inspect it cuz he thinks it'll fail the tip-test....how exactly do they do it? i dont think that they do it the way that he described but i'd like to get the damn thing out of the driveway and on the road for him to drive for once lol.
i had my car fail inspection once cuz the steering column was loose, it annoyed me cuz they just kept revving the engine the entire time. then i fixed the steering column and brought it back and they said 'oh well we'll just bring it right to the front, no other tests have to be done' and the dick decided to rev the engine the entire time again (it was hot, and as you know third gen firebirds dont have a grill and can overheat easily and i had to crank the heat to cool it off a little) and not to mention he almost rear-ended a miata by flooring the car and not realizing how fast he was really going...it really annoyed me, i dont think i'll be going to the eatontown inspection station again...ever

oh really? my brother's friends told him that they put it on a ramp type dealy and see how far they can drive sideways on this very long ramp that gets more and more steep to see if the truck will tip over...thought it sounded pretty primative, thought there was a better way they do it....hes stupid sometimes.

I haven't taken my Jeep through inspection yet (it was just inspected when I bought it), but my understanding is that the tilt test is nothing major, as long as the truck is in good shape and not lifted ridiculously high (there are limits to total overall lift, depending on GVWR).

isn't it no more than 4 inch suspension and/or body and no more than 4 inch taller than OE tires? i thought i remember that along with bumper, headlights, and turn signal heights.

Any altered suspension height requires a state inspection, regardless of the lift amount. Private stations are not allowed to instpect them, even under the 4" tilt test limit. Anything 4" or more over stock (body / suspension / tire) requires a tilt test.
Maximum lift height for GVWR 4500 lbs and under is 7" above original vehicle height with tires.
Maximum lift height for GVWR 4501 - 7500 lbs is 9" above original vehicle height with tires.
Maximum lift height for GVWR 7501 - 10000 lbs is 11" above original vehicle height with tires.
Tire size limit is 38" or 6" larger than stock, whichever is smaller.
Can't find it published anywhere, but from what I have read about other's experiences, it seems like height is measured at the outer edge of your door when opened. This may be a slight advantage to those with sagging door hinges.

my bros jeep with the 2.5 inch sky jacker failed cause the 33 in tires stuck out too far from the fender wells... heh the guy even said before he entered the station he was failing for that but he is an idiot and got 2 failure to inspect vehicle tickets before he finally took my stock tires that were sitting on the side of the house for months not doing anything....took him 2 hours to swap tires inspect then swap them again.

Yea, the front fenders (or flares) have to cover the tire completely, and if you don't have rear flares that cover the tire, you have to have mudflaps installed.
