Okay, now I'm having computer problems.

My stupid little POS Acer apparently came with a trial version of McAfee on it. I hate McAfee, so I went to the store and bought Kasperksy. I get home, uninstall McAfee and all it's components, and start to install my new program. Right, it's all fine and dandy until I get an error message that says something along the lines of: "Some programs are not compatible with Kasperksy and need to be removed before the instillation can finish: McAfee Antivirus 2009." I already removed it, checked the hidden files, and removed anything else that could possibly be McAfee related! So now I'm kind of aggrivated, and make my way back to Best Buy and talk to one of the Geek Squad members. He tells me to go home and install the McAfee Uninstaller.. which I did, only to find out that damn program is another one altogether and has nothing to do with actually uninstalling McAfee. It's of absolutely no use to me! Question is, now what do I do to try and get Kaspersky to install?

Question...did you restart the computer after you uninstalled McAfee, before you tried installing Kaspersky?

i had virus problems about a month back. really bad. a friend told me about avg and i downloaded it...and it created more problems. i uninstalled avg and installed avira via their free download on their website and i have no problems now. it took about 4 or 5 full sweeps to get it all and i still get a ''error chime'' when i start up from one of the virus' it has quarantined trying to boot up but being denied.....avira is truly the best antivirus ive ever used.

btw I AM BY NO MEANS COMPUTER LITERATE....i just know how to internet

,

macs are getting more popular, but yeah, IBMs are still the most popular platform to write viruses for......why can't the malicious coders just work for Microsoft or somethin?

Solution- Said screw Kaspersky and downloaded Avira.

Thank you guys for trying to help.. I tried to install a few more times, restarted it a few times- nothing was working.

That's what I heard.. I've yet to actually play it, but everyone I talked to said it was amazing, so I went on a whim and got it.

HATE McAfee. I personally like the error from them that says you cant uninstall it because it is running when almost every other program will stop the said program and start the uninstall. Unfortunately McAfee doesnt completely uninstall. You have to manually remove either startup program entries or registry entries, or both depending on the version.

You truely get what you pay for when you rely exclusively rely on free programs. Nuff said there.

What the hell is an IBM

I think virus' are "idle hands are the devils tools". People get bored and like to eff stuff up for everybody.
I think in this day and age you dont really even need an anti virus program. You really need to worry about malicious scripts and pop ups from browsing. I only run an anti spyware/malware program, although it does look for certian virus'.
I know how to internet for the most part and I dont get anything so a lot of it has to do with eduwacasion.

People hear vires this and virus that on the news because it is such a generic term for PC's now a days and dont realize where the real threats come from IMO

Most people don't realize computers need 'maintenance' too. I ran disk cleanup on a friend's computer and there was like 10GB of extra BS she didn't need. It actually had to run overnight

i can gaurantee you have some sort of adware or spyware then, maybe not enough to notice speed changes but you will have something.
Ever been to a page with an advertisement?
