				? about torque arm....

if i have the rear suspension at normal ride height (tires on the ground not lifted) can i remove the torque arm? or is there to much tension on it.... and is the car still rollable without a torque arm in place?... i ask because im pulling my engine and trans soon... i plan on doing this wiht the rear tires on ramps so i can get the pivot enough to pull the engine/trans out from under the car... obviously i have to take the torque arm off... didnt know if i could do that with tires on the ground... then i need the car rollable in case i have to move it.... with no trans can i still roll the car around with out a torque arm....? i plan to get a new trans crossmember with the torque arm mount in it so it takes it away from the trans but wasnt planning onthat yet.... thanks for any help..

man whats that sopposed to mean.... when i did my first clutch i had the car on a lift... it was a PITA to get the TA off... i had to pry it out from the trans mount.... and the TA immediiatly moved up into the floor becuase the weight of the rear was twisting it up... and i had a hell of a time getting back in that way... i think if the weight is on the ground it might level it out and slide off...

It will rise toward the floorpan as you remove the connection to the tranny but there isn't a ton of pressure on it and like stated with the control arms in place and the rest of the rear suspension it will roll just fine.

Edit- Also you are correct you need the tires off the ground to get it to move back in place or else you are trying to move the car's weight (forward or rear motion)by the arm.

Either way Brandon, that stock piece should have no place on your new setup, so take a cutting torch to it.

You will need to lower the rear down some you will not be able to get the bolts out they will hit the trans tunnel.

HAH.... yea its deff getting replaced with a tubular one and relocated mount... but thats after i get the front suspension all done first... im not putting the car on the road till all suspension motor trans and rear and supporting mods (fuel and stuff) are done... iv been saving for quite some time so hopfully i wont run out of money but we will see..

as for everybody else thank you for the input... ill just take the torque arm off before i put the rear tires on the ramps...... thanks agian...

yep your still gonna need to jack up the car and support the chassis to drop the rear IF you intend on pulling the TA completely.

When I did my swap i took the whole TA out first. Had no problems pushing the car around as a roller with LCA's only.

as for jsfboa... i really dont "need" help i should be able to do it on my own... but if you guys want to come hand out your more than welcome im sure i can use an extra set of hands here and there... not trying to have a party though... cause lets face it prob will get less work done that way... im trying to get the motor pulled... the undercarraige all rust proofed and the subframe back under the car rolling in a weeks time.... gonna shoot to start it 2 weekends from now... guys who are invited know who you are.... the "regulars"
