				RAM vs SPEC clutch
			 
 
			
			My clutch on '93 Camaro  started slipping, so I've put in a new one. The old one was RAM, stock type, the new one is SPEC Stage 1. Well, RAM sucks, SPEC rules. The RAM clutch has the same issue as the Chevy original one, it never fully disconnects, even when it's worn and slipping. This makes shifting difficult. SPEC has this issue fixed. BTW, Pontial G8 GXP factory clutch has it fixed too (GTO was screwed up the same way as Camaro).

			How was the GTO screwed up other than the slave cylender being crap?

			I agree, what you are describing sounds more like a hydraulic problem than a problem with the actual clutch..

I think they use the spring inserts under the friction pads on the disc, that expand thicker than the range of the pressure plate travel, I've read an article about it in some online magazine.
 
I've bought my Camaro used, and one of the factors why I bought that particular car was that it was shifting a lot better than any other Camaro I test-drove. As it has turned out later, when the clutch wore out, it had a 4-puck race clutch from SPEC.Changing it to RAM made it as bad as any other Camaro.
 
I was thinking about going to a 4-puck clutch again, but I autocross the car in F-Stock, and the clutch must be factory type in this class. So I'm happy that the Stage 1 factory-type clutch has worked out just as good.

			ive had the same thing happen to me. sounds like hydaulic issues. ive run both the RAM and SPEC in my car and liked both.  6k clutch dumps on slicks and still holding strong

			What Josh said and that other guy...    I've had my GTO since it had 21k on it and never had a problem with the clutch till the slave took a crap. After that I threw a monster in it with the braided lines and new slave. All is good. The clutch that I took out, I could have resold it looked that good.

			Definately sounds like hydraulics, I had both, the RAM was a bit tough on the street (it was a VDS) but you couldn't give me a Spec clutch again and get me to use it, it was JUNK, I had a stage 3+ that last a whopping 1,040 miles and 5 track passes on a hotcammed LS1, the OEM clutch lasted longer
