Fuel pump and electrical help

I have a feeling my fuel pump is on its way out. The car doesn't go above 4k under load, and I couldn't get the car to kick over a few nights ago, and when I popped the hood i didnt smell any fuel or hear the fuel pump hum. My engine is decently modified, and come spring time I'll be camming it. I was thinking of putting a 225lph or 255lph fuel pump. I know the stock pump puts out 24gph which equals out to around 96lph. If I put the higher flowing fp with the stock cam, will I run into issues of flooding and will I end up burning gas way more than I do now? Also, I was on the AC expressway the other day and I put the car back into 4th and gunned it, once I got to 4k the car begun to sputter like usual, but then my gauges began to flicker and shut off, and my check engine came on. So I let off and once I got back to lower RPMs everything was working fine again and no check engine. Is my alternator on its way out too?

Check your FP with a gauge and see if it falls off at higher RPMs.

Sounds like an ignition problem though to me.

As far of the higher volume pump, it will be fine.. just add more volume if your engine needs it.

It does more sound like ignition but it could be starving for fuel at high RPM. When was the last service done to it? Try just changing the fuel filter? How many miles are on the plugs?

Put a meter on the battery and see what voltage your charging at at idle. Nothing was changed since your tune correct? And it is a recent thing?

the filters new, the plugs have less then 200 miles on them, and the battery is in the 13v area at idle, I had the sputtering issue with the motor before when it was cammed, but never the whole electrical issue...since then i only put a stock cam back in rebuilt the bottom end, and had the pcm tuned for the stock cam, and install an MSD 6AL

Well rule out the easy stuff, get a FP gauge, and with the fuel reg vac line off you should have close to 42 psi. Then hook the vac line back up, tape the FP gauge to the windshield and see what it does when under load.

How many miles on the car/pump?

like already said, start with checking fuel pressure. And a HV fuel pump will have no bad effects, the fuel pressure regular will keep the pressure where it needs to be.

I put a FP gauge on and unplugged the vac line to the FPR, it was way low it was around 30 PSI so i turned it back up to 42 psi, once i plugged the vac line back on it dropped to 35. When I got on it around 3k it spiked to 42 psi, but then I had the electric issue again so I couldn't bring the RPMs up higher.

and as far as i know the pumps gots 123,000 on it

You have an adjustable fuel reg?

yea...why do LT1's not have stock adjustable FPR's?

Correct, what kind is it?

I'm not sure I never took notice I thought all LT1's came stock with them, it looks like a stock non adjustable one just with a bolt going through the top.

Sounds like the FP is good, I'd look elsewhere for your problem.

Can you bypass the MSD unit? If not double check your ground wires. Those units can be very touchy some times about their grounds.

my FPR looks like that one only where the vac line is there is an adjuster screw and the vac line is on the side
