Coolers and Hoses
Wondering what type of hoses members used when installing aftermarket engine oil coolers or remote filters. Not real thrilled with the common high pressure rubber hose that comes with these kits, and most of the stainless braided hoses are actually lower pressure hose than the rubber. The problem with the rubber hose is the oil cooler/filter kits all say to replace the hose ever couple of years. Would rather have something that will last about 10 years.
What hose have you used on your engine oil cooler or remote filter?

if the steel braided lines are rated at a lower pressure than the neoprene rubber ones then why would you use them. youd be replacing those lines more than every few years if they burst due to pressure exceeding the limits of the steel braided lines. im pretty sure that if the steel lines were better for the kit, theyd come with it.

Which braided hoses are you looking at? They are not all the same, and some can handle very high pressure.

good to 10,000psi. i think the v6 will be under that. seriously though you want a rubber hose to last 10 years? would you drive on 10 year old tires? rubber deteriorates from the elements, there's no way around nature buddy.

I was looking at Spectre SSteel-Flex Oil/Heater Hose Lines at Summit Racing http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SPE-39504/. Rated at 100 PSI. The Rubber hose is rated 400 psi. Summit has their own brand hose rated 1000 psi, but its -8 AN, which makes the ID less than 1/2". Trying to stay with 1/2" ID hose.

For longevity and occasional towing duty. Tests show engines with oil coolers, and transmissions with coolers last longer then engines and transmission without them.

A lot of Spectre's stuff is sold in on the rack at some of the big name parts houses. Cheap imported stuff for the most part.
You are talking about a trans cooler or a motor oil cooler?

Both. Want to add remote filter with engine oil cooler, and a trans cooler. Both B&M stacked plate coolers. The remote filter(s) and cooler can add over a quart more oil to the system, and thats a nice plus. I also get stuck in traffic jams in the summer just crawling on the highway with the A/C running, etc. Pretty rough on both engine and trans oils. Now with the PCM programed to run the fans at lower temps that match a 180 thermostat, coolers will really help extend the life of the engine and trans.
Besides, the coolers and filter mounts are rather inexpensive, and an easy, simple way to reduce wear on the car.
Been looking at Perma-Cool for the remote filter hardware, and B&M for stacked plate coolers. Seems B&M make the best coolers.

As for line, I run braided stainless steel line with A/N fittings. No problems whatsoever and its been 3 or 4 years. Also run a power steering cooler with similar line and no problems there either.

Ive used stainless steel braided stuff for fuel injection fuel systems with no issues, just make sure you get the higher quality brands that have a good liner between the braiding and rubber inner hose, as to prevent chaffing and wear when dirt and oil seep through the braiding.

Speaking of wastes of time, this thread officially is one.
Answering your original question- get your AN hoses and call it a day. The statement that most stainless hoses have lower pressure capacity than rubber is false.
