I used to be one of those guys saying that they should be optional. but seatbelts have saved my life a few times, so i make sure to wear it no matter what since.

Agree 100%.Even after being involved in a few accidents(none of which were my fault).Been driving for almost 30 years now and never really wore a seatbelt.I will only wear it now when I go outside of PA and it comes right off once I get back across the state line.Got nailed twice in NJ and I refuse to let it happen again.Its a BS Law and should be optional like its been since the inception of seat belts....So glad its a secondary in PA.

That's like saying eating should be optional. Yeah, I suppose you could stop eating. but you'd be stupid to do so, and you have a good chance of being dead.

Your comparison dosent really make much sense.Eating is a basic necessity to live while wearing seatbelts is not.You could end up dead many different ways not just from going beltless.How many accidents have you been in compared to the amount of times you have been in or driven a car?????Ive only been involved in maybe 5 or less in almost 30 years.That works out to maybe 1 in every 6 years which is very minimal compared to the number of times Ive actually been driver/passenger in a car.All Im saying is that back when I grew up and started driving there was no such thing as a seatbelt law and I have a very hard time dealing with the fact that some lawmaker is going to force me to wear one.Im sure Im not the only one that feels this way

Ok, here goes.

1.) There are many more cars on the road, with more distractions
2.) You do not pay to clean up the mess if you get busted up. Everyone else does. A single person's tax payments are nowhere near enough, either. As a taxpayer, I want to force people to buckle up so I don't have to pay more taxes to clean up other people's messes. If people don't want to wear seat belts that should be their choice. But it should be marked on their license that they also wish to defer medical treatment.

Seat belts have saved my ass a number of times. I like my head and want to keep it so I wear my seat belt. IMO, based on the information I have read, I'd be a fool not to wear one, law or not.

Sometimes they have to legislate stupid. Like sexual harassment, racial discrimination, speeding in school zones, requiring cars to even have seat belts, whatever it is that seems on the surface that common sense would rule but alas, it does not.

so true but seatbelts have saved my life 3 times in the past 3 years and now that my beautiful daughter is starting to talk and is 1 yr old i can't complain about wearing my seatbelt those three times and any other time. Also think about your family, you aren't wearing it for yourself you are wearing it for them, remember they have to deal with it when u get blindsided and thrown 50 ft from your car and die not you. I dont want to pay for you to live off tubes and machines and neither should your family

Here's my hang-up with the whole seatbelt issue. If you are going to legislate public saftey, that' fine. But lets not pull punches and lets call it what it is, a money maker and tool that can be used to open doors, trunks etc.. If they (big brother) were truly out for public saftey, then every person on a motorcycle should be required by law (and able to be cited and fined on the spot) to be in full leathers, boots over the ankle, full face helmet, leather gloves and a dayglow vest at all times, no matter how hot or cold or wet or whatever....

Until the playing field is level, I see it as a money making tool, not them looking out for little old me. Don't feed me that line of BS.

Belts save lives, no doubt. But big brother could give 2 poops about me as an individual.

I also agree with it is a money grab (well, that is why it is a primary offense now). No politician ever let a good idea go w/o somehow grabbing cash. From where I stand only knuckleheads get that ticket. Like running a toll booth.

Ignorant people claim that it's safer to get ejected from the vehicle than the remain in it. I guess they don't understand most of the time you'll get ejected head first through the windshield.
