You guys are pretty smart, figure this out...

I have a 2005 Z71 Tahoe which I purchased last year. It has fornt heated seats. The controls are mounted in each door. Each switch has two buttons, each button will isolate heat to either the seat cusion or the seat back or both. There is only one setting for the seat back but there are 3 settings for the seat cusion. Low, medium & high.

Both the seat back and seat cusion have always worked. Yesterday my passenger noted that only the back portion of the passenger side was working despite the indicator lights illuminated for both the seat back and seat cushion.

I turned mine on and the same thing. All of the lights illuminate on the switch for both the seat back and the seat cushion but only the back gets heat.

How could two seats that were fully functioning last week seats only 1/2 function now? Switches stay illuminated. I would suspect a burnt out cushion heater element if it was just one seat but both? I pulled the fuse to the heater module to try and reset it and that didnt work...

Anybody have a clue?

This is what the switch looks like.

crazy issue, not sure if i have any ideas, but those are the same switches in my tbss, and the seat back only still has three settings, the single light by itself should just be an indicator, and the three lights in a row would still show the level of heat

Bulletin No.: 05-08-05-008

Date: August 18, 2005

TECHNICAL
Subject:
Intermittent Heated Seats Inoperative, DTC B3941 Set (Reprogram Driver Seat Module)

Models:
2003-2005 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT
2003-2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
2003-2005 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL, Yukon Denali

All with Seat FRT, Individual (Non BKT) (RPO AN3)

2003-2005 HUMMER H2 with Seat, Front Bucket Deluxe (RPO AR9)

Condition

Some customers may comment that occasionally the seat heater will not operate when activated. If the ignition key is cycled OFF and back ON again, the heated seat will operate correctly. Also, on some LB7 diesel engine vehicles, the seat heater may turn itself off during the first 10 minutes of operation. This occurs only with the first activation for the day and works correctly with subsequent activations immediately after the event. These conditions are intermiffent and DTC B3941 may be set.

Correction

Technicians are to reprogram the driver seat module with an updated software calibration. This new service calibration was released with TIS satellite data update version 6.5 available June 13, 2005. As always, make sure your Tech 2(R) is updated with the latest software version.
maybe?

Thats a good call. I saw that bulliten on all data last night but the way I read it, its for if the seats are not working at all. As in indicator lights not illuminating. I did try cycling the ignition, but that did nothing. I guess it couldnt hurt to put a scanner on it and check the version of software.

Thanks you two.

is there maybe a bad common ground for the lower elements of both seats?

good thought but each seat heater is grounded by their independent door module to operate them

makes sense

then if they are both completely separate, id say its just a crazy coincidence that they both burnt out at the same time

don't know if you looked but alldata has a diagnostic tree by symptom for the heated seats being inoperative.

i went through a lot of problems with the seat heaters in my silverado ss a couple years ago. The driverside would come on and off by itself randomly, or would work, ect, and it only happened in the summer, so you drive with the ac on and the seats are burning hot at the same time. The reprogramming and other fiddling with new switches by the dealer fix it and its been fine ever since.
