So what GM is saying is that "No improvements were made to the 2011 V/6, just a change in the decal that gave it 8 more horses that it already had in 2010".

Do you want a 400hp V6 option? C'mon, what does everyone expect? It's a V6 model designed to give people an option that don't want a SS....300+HP for a V6 option is plenty.

All I was getting at was that they were saying it now has an extra 8 HP that was ALREADY there in 2010. The fact that it runs like a raped ape for a V/6 and gets 31 mph is awesome. I would be thrilled to run 13.7 in my Bird all day long.

Ahhh OK, I see what you're saying....probably not the smartest marketing moves by GM...but we've come to expect that from them.

they probably spent $10 million to verify that the engine made the power it already made, $14 million informing all of it's engineers and techs, and $10,000 on one commercial that will air once at 3am on a channel nobody watches in the middle of an infomercial

So the base camaro is a few ticks off their best and that is somehow bad for GM? Huh. The problem is on the ford side, and they are addressing that with the 2010 5.0 car, no?

They are going back in time to good ole days when there was a decal on the air filter to let the world know what was there. If the Vette had a 454 with 390 HP, the EXACT SAME motor in a 1970 Monte Carlo SS had 360 HP. Just look at the SD 455 Trans Am, they were WAY underrated. So was the 1989 TTA at 250 HP. If you going to improve on the 2011 model, make it real, with maybe a better flowing CAI/ prom chip/ exhaust etc...In essence all the stuff the aftermarket boys can make money off of. Just look at SLP when they started. Everything was emission legal, that's why is was called Street Legal Performance. Like it or not, GM is now locked into a HP battle with Mustang for bragging rites and unless they step up tp the plate, Mustang is gonna run right past them. One last side note, in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Mustang and Challenger have stated they will compete, but as of now NO CAMARO!

im speaking of the new 5.0 and the new v6 that ford is using. saying they have overstepped the camaro in terms of performance and packaging. the spread from v6 to v8 in chevy's stable just isnt good enough. the v6 mustang is only a few ticks off of chevys top of the line camaro. which if you ask me is a very bad thing for chevy/gm.

the top of the line mustang GT 5.0 outperforms the camaro for 4 grand less. chevy needs a top of the line model to justify the performance of their v8 models at the moment.

When the 2011 prices are official I will review again. But I'm still not on board that the mustang GT with a larger v8 than 2010 outperforming the V6 camaro by a few ticks is an issue for GM. IMO it shows GM stepped fords balls in 2010. Sales show that too.

The Z28 comes out next year too.

you still got it backwards. the 2011 v6 mustang is beefed up and runs high 13s. im saying that a v6 stang that runs only a few tenths of a second behind the v8 camaro thats a bad thing for gm.

For clarification from what I've seen:

'10 SS does 13.0
'11 V6 Mustang does 13.7

hence Nasty's whole argument.

7 tenths isn't exactly close but whatever. Not every V6 Mustang is going to run that just like not every SS will run 13.0's(though PLENTY have consistently run in the 12's but they were LS3/M6 cars)

yeah and with the 5.0's doing solid 12s will probably dip a bit deeper, but will still out perform the camaro on its worse day. iirc the new base GT stang gets all the benefits of the 2010 track pack stock.

my whole argument is that when the competitors base model car (in class) is close to the performance of your top of the line model (once again in class....comparing a zr1 to a mustang is way off ) then you need to revise a bit. adding a higher performance model (z28) helps gm compete with the gt500 but theyre still lacking in the lower models. only thing i can see that will help is to price the z28 slightly above the current 2ss and bring the 2ss under the highest priced GT stang.

Your basing your entire argument on a fallacy. 13.7's is NOWHERE near 13.0's dude, not even close...but since we're talking about a car you don't like you're stretching the argument to fit your dislike...it's OK...again...we get it.

It's ONE year that the Mustang has stepped it up...one year.

i just watched the Motortrend "test" of the V6 stang. i did not see any real test equipment to get accurate 1/4 times since they did it just on an open course with road cones set up. So i wouldnt swear by a 13.7, but thats just me. If you take curb weight plus claimed flywheel hp and use a rough 1/4mile calculator you get 14.0seconds. and thats not including the weight of driver and other extra stuff. Also on a side note, in the video at 0:54, i saw something that would scare me about buying that car.

The v6 may have the power to back up the claims but until theres more testing and guys that run their new v6s at the track to get an "average"... ill be skeptical of a loaned out test car that may/or may not even be "tweaked"... just my thoughts

Talking about 1/4 mile times, I was reading just now in the new issue of Mustangs and Fast Fords that they picked up a new 2010 Rouch Stage 3 Mustang right off a dealership floor and took it to a dyno and it made 508RWHP. So the 540hp rating is waaaay conservative. That thing is making probably more like 620-630hp. Then they took it to the local track and bone stock with stock tires it ran an 11.57@124. Then they swapped the rear tires out for a set of ET Streets and it went 11.40@125. Those are some crazy times for a bone stock car. And that's a 2010. I can't wait to see what a 2011 model will do.
