				Storage

Anyone ever use public storage or something like that for their stuff? I'm gonna be in between apartments and there will be a month or so of downtime while I look for the new place. Some places claim $1 for their first month so I assume a contract is involved. What should I look out for? It's basically furnishings for a large two bedroom apartment that we will need stored. Thanks guys

yeah the first month for a dollar usally goes with a 1 year contract. those places are usally safe. we have 3 that we use for work stuff. alot of the stuff is books we sell so we have ones that are climate controlled. which i doub't you will need for just 1 month. all of them are pretty much the same. i've used them, my kids have used them and we never had any problems. you'll be safe.

I've used several different places over the years. Look to see if there is a minimum amount of time you're required to have the unit, what the late fees are if you're a day or more late paying it, check out how secure the place looks and what security they have, ask to see a few units and check to see if there are any mice problems, if it's an outdoor place expect it to be god awful hot in there so anything that can't stand continuous high heat and humidity should not go in like musical instruments or records etc., check to see what their hours are both for the office if you need to talk to anyone at any point in time and the hours of access you have to your unit. Also if you have anything that's large, make sure you can maneuver it in and out. A lot of the indoor places have multiple floors and very tight corners. Before you make the commitment, take that into consideration and physically walk the route you'll have to take from getting the things out of the truck to the unit and make sure you think you can do it.

I looked into storage places a while back (in case I got a 9 month lease apartment instead of 12) and the $1 first month's rent is usually if you're going to have the place 4 mos+
I'd suggest using yelp or something similar to try and compare the local ones

All good info. Thanks guys. I'm only gonna need it, it seems, for about two months. I never thought about the heat and humidity, which means I'll have to take books and computer home with me.
Yelp isn't very helpful, so it seems i'm gonna have to do some Craigslist searching.

google 'storage' then enter the town and state you're looking for the unit. Then click on the google map. That should give you most of the storage places within the area you're looking. Also compare prices. Some places are a lot less then others.
