noise in rear

I have a 2000 Z28 with 3.73 gears. The gears were just put in but even before they were in i was hearing a loud humming noise coming from the rear when i would moderatly accelerate and when i would just let off the gas and let my car roll at the speed i was originally going. Some people told me its a pinion bearing but i just got all that replaced when i put the 3.73 gears in. Any clue to what it might be would be helpful. Thanks guys.

i could be wrong, but i've heard Richmond gears are "noisy" i have 3.73 richmonds in mine and they were noisy after the install, but i've just got used to it.. and this was 6 years ago. if they ween't rchmond then maybe u have an issue where they need to be shimmed/adjusted . check the wear pattern with that special paint if the whine is that bad. or it could be a bad posi unit?
