More waxing than racing but the answer is yes.

Is there a tech question here or can I move this to the lounge?

My car gets waxed once a year. I want to race it (auto-x + open track) but time and money prevent it for the next few years. Kids come first.

I'm a waxer. It is alot cheaper to shine them up than break them at the race track.

Wax or polsih, whatever you prefer, it's worth keeping up with your car. It will keep it in better condition and help it hold it's value better. I don't enjoy waxing/polishing anything but it's worth the effort.

I use Meguire's for everything. I either use just the NXT gen wax, or I make my "brew" which is NXT wax, Zymol, and Meguires any color wax mixed together, and works better then just the NXT alone, last longer as well.

Menzerna SIP to get the finish right, souveran paste wax works pretty well on my cars.

yup. wash the car at least once a week. no wax...no point doing it...heard that doing it in the sun ruins the paint way more than just shining her up a tad. i have no garage to let a car sit in for a few hours while the wax cures. |

Most off the shelf waxes do not require hours to cure. By the time you are done applying it to the car, you can start removing it where you started.

If you need shade, I've found parking under a tree or next to a building works just fine.
