Passenger side heat shield, needed?

so a while ago i was asking what this noise could be, turns out its the passenger side heat shield thats under the car, and goes over the header near the O2 sensor. do i need a heat shield there or can i just take it off?

Have not had mine on for a long while, no issues so far.
