LS Swap

as some of you may know ive started tearing apart my car. the car needed a lot more than what you guys may think it needed (body work and a rear) and i was pulling the motor and trans out to do some stuff some im just going to swap it in something else. im still wieghing my options on what it goes in, but as far as what to remove from my car besides the obvious(motor, trans, pcm) what else do i need ?

if i take the whole underhood harness with that be sufficiant ? also what about the brake system ? ive never swapped a EFI car befor so this is a whole new ball came for me.

it also a possiblilty that my set up ends up in a LT1 car, anyone got advice(or writeup) on that ?

thanks

I would just take the whole engine harness and body harness out without cutting it.

Body harness you could take but I dunno if you will need it or be able to use it pending swap car.

Brakes would be the same, ABS will be interesting trying to make a fbod system work in a non Fbod, so I would save the calipers but odds are you prob won't use em. Now if its going in an LT1 car, you may get lucky on the ABS, but it'd be easier to reuse the LT1 ABS and swap front calipers to the LS1 style dual pistons.

you are not very likely to make the abs work in another car. lt1 guys seem to buy the whole front spindle & brake setup to do the upgrade. rear brakes have some resale value to, pull the backing plates too.

body harness should not come into play in an enigne swap.

my car didnt have ABS breaks anyway. and if it is a Swap into a LT1 car, wouldnt i literly just unbolt the Kmember from LS car, and slid it right into place on the LT car? and then i would just swap over the rear brakes. ive been searchin for a write up on someone swapping it into a LT1 car, but i always end up on 240s or Fox bodys...

for swap keep engine/trans/ecm/harness/fans/radiator/hoses.

I don't think you really need the body harness for a swap but pull it all apart w/o cutting.

keep crossmember and k-member for possible lt1 car swap - you might need to ask more on this, especially if it is a auto to manual or such swap. And entire fuel and evap systems

front brakes & spindles for lt1 car

rear brakes complete with backing plate, cables, handle, cable brackets

If he does the LT1 car, it would be an auto going into a car that came with an auto...

Just make a good effort to label and not ruin any and all things coming off the car beggz.

Keep the drivetrain related parts separate from interior stuff and if you don't wanna do a 4th gen, sell off the interior misc crap.

yea everything will be seperated. everything that will be needed for a swap in anything will be kept on first floor of my garage. rest of the stuff that wont be used/might not be used goes in the elevator and goes up

Definitely keep the engine harness and all related wiring going to/from the ECM, as well as the fans, smog stuff, fuel pump wiring harness. I'd save the dash harness too. It might come in handy when you need to pin out connectors for gauges in a non-F-body if you go that route.

When we converted my old Monte to TPI, I got the complete wiring harness from the donor car - there were still tailight bulbs hanging off it! We took what we needed, and then scrapped the leftovers after the car was running and everything worked (gauges, Check Engine light, etc). IMO, you should keep the car around if you're swapping into a non-F-body until you know for sure what you won't need. Better to have extra crap laying around than finding out afterwards you needed something.

Don't part the car of things you may need until you find your swap car.

And I have a free rear end you ass.
