				washing an ls1 engine bay

i know the lt1's had the opti spark which couldnt get wet, is there anything on the ls1's that would prevent me from being able to hose down the engine bay?

Why take the chance? Your better off using some rags and a spray bottle full of cleaner.
Windex cleans just about everything. (Unless your engine bay is covered in grease.)

IMO, if you wanna attempt it... Remove the battery completely, wait a few hours so power can drain out of the electronics and so the car is cold, then do it. Also let the car sit until everything dries before hooking the battery back up. And to let it dry may be overnight. If you have a garage, push it in and let it sit to dry so in case the temp drops below freezing, nothing will freeze.

ok, i was just wondering cause i used to with my iroc and i can with my 89 silverado, this is the newest car ive ever owned and the engine bay needs a good cleaning. i used to spray the whole bay and then scrub it and then use armor tire shine to give everything a nice shiny cleanness lol just looking to find the best way to give it a nice thorough bath with out messing anything up

Only thing that bothers me is the water that will sit on the injectors.
Otherwise jusy don't use direct spray. use a shower setting if you have one on the nozzel.
The alternator gets soaked if you have a power steering leak and I'm sure gets wet from driving being on the bottom. If I don't do it in myshop I like to keep a can of compressed air to blow out the pool of water that will sit on the intake.

Any of the dealership detail companies I see go to town, have yet to see any issues besides the occasional belt squeak till it dries

If you are to worried pay a detailer to do it and I'd it gots screwey then blame them lol

I washed mine many times before, just cover up the alternator and the brake fluid reserve with aluminum foil. Soak up any excess water with a throw away towel. Let it air dry a little and it starts right up.

I've done it a bunch of times, I just avoid spraying the computer and alternator and then dry it well

Ive powerwashed every engine bay in every car Ive had. Fuel injected or not. Dont spray any connecters directly and thats it. Nothing is gonna happen. I dont understand why there so many people acting like the cars going to implode.

Um last I thought everything had a weather pack connector, the coils are epoxied from the elements, etc... I wouldn't use the straight high pressure stream just the "shower" setting. That is all I ever used and haven't had a problem ever.
