Talk about bad timing!
I went over to dmv to renew my license on Thursday. I had no problems, in and out in 10 minutes. They needed to see my boating safety certificate and I carry that in my wallet so no big deal. Then yesterday in the mail, I get something from dmv that says starting May 7th (this coming Monday) you will be able to renew your license for 8 years. I go and look at my newly renewed license and it's only good for 4 years! Doh!

The boating certificate or driver license? The new driver license starts this month and everyone has to get them by some date.

The driver's license goes to 8 years starting this coming Monday. There are new federal requirements but shouldn't really be any tougher for NJ since we were the toughest anyway.

Yes, the driver's license renewel was supposed to be tougher to meet new federal requirements which would also make it good for 8 years. But it was put on hold so who knows if or when the real changes might occur. I guess I'm glad I didn't wait now.
