Daily Driver fun
Well, I didn't know some of the guys were gonna be at Island last night but for those who were there....
Yes, I ran the daily driver Subaru Outback, and no I didn't care if I ran 20s.
Actually I did better than 20s. But that Yellow 57 Bel Air would have beat my ass down the strip....DAMN!
Ran it three times
Run one, Screwed up the launch as the engine bogged down big time... 19.133 @ 72.9 MPH Ran against a Camaro that pretty much ran away...
Run two, better but still screwed up the launch though I dropped the clutch at around 2500... 18.691 @ 75.74 MPH
Run three, best of the bunch against a new ZR1 Vette... YES I'd like that pic...LMAO!!! Anyway, the vette got out of it so its misleading but I ran 18.125 @ 76.76 MPH, to the vette's 13.4 with a 76.86 trap. Thing that surprised me however was I almost took the vette at 60 ft. I had a 2.612 60 ft time to the vette's 2.428.
I probably could have broken into the 17s, but the best time came at a clutch drop of 4000-4200 RPMs, I figured if I was gonna try to run faster I was going to break something. So settled for that best time and parked it. But my car has 221,000 miles on it. Compared to Motor Trends specs for a 2000 Outback like mine with a auto trans an 600 miles on it, it shows the auto vs manual deal I usually see. The auto had a 17.9 ET with a 75.2 trap. I was a couple ticks back but had the higher trap speed by far. Didn't help that I had to shift to 4th before hitting the traps.
Next time I'm there, I'll have a more proper car.... I may try to run the GTA at the meet Saturday. Should be more fun, to say the least......
So for those who don't have F bodies or are bringing the daily drivers, don't be scared, run what you bring. A few people told me it was fun to watch that thing go down for ****s and giggles. Now where do I find a twin turbo setup for an EJ25 boxer motor?

Yes you can, I made a roast beef sandwich and ate it by the time I reached the end. Still it was fun LOL. When I found the magazine 1/4 mile time I was impressed that even though it was the third time I ever took that car down the track, and at 221,000 miles it still came damn close to when it was new. But yes...I need a twin turbo setup and a bottle next time I take that slow thing down the track......

Probably not something complicated like an Italian Sub.

A lot of cars that are 'broken in' run better times than when motor trend tests them...if it was taken care of and still has good compression anythings possible....and no reason for a tt setup..just put a newer sti engine in it.

I could buy a WRX for the cost of that swap and probably out run the wagon with an STi motor LOL. I don't know how much more I could have gotten out of the wagon. Perhaps a better RT, but even if I nailed the RT I still would only run 17.2s maybe. MY RT on that last run was .835, first two were over a second. Partly me going on green, and partly me holding the car with the footbrake, which likely wasn't needed. I just ran it for a laugh more than anything. My next option would have been to launch at 4500 or 5000, and I would still have that problem of having to get 4th.....
Well I did it for laughs and to have fun and didn't break anything or burn the clutch so there we go. I'll look at the GTA do the Island tech on it and see how it looks. I will likely need to do something about that fan to hold it tight on the radiator support up top. Other than that its that exhaust tip rattle on the body. Nothing to keep it from running IMO.

If you bring a work van I'll show up with "easy rider". she's one of my brother's landscaping trucks... beaten and battered 1998 K2500 with warped manifolds. She's probably a solid 18+ second truck.

I thought it didn't, something someone said made me think that the RT was related at this track. Said if I had a better RT the ET would be lower. Didn't make sense. I've got an idea, why don't we all just run our crap daily drivers or work vehicles instead, the crowd can take bets on what car will break first or how slow we'll run.

Unless your GTA looks highly modified, theyre not going to even pop the hood at tech inspection. Just tell them it runs mid 13's and they wont even look at the car. I wouldnt worry about your fan or radiator support

That is only about a 1/2 second behind what my LG4 did years ago at E-town. With a mph like that you should be able to get it into the 17's...

His 60' was horrible. If he stayed in it through the pass, he'd still be in the 12's.

You're actually almost dead on. My 1/8th mile was 11.6 speed 59.59

FYI ZR1 had a centrifugal and was really not a ZR1 but had the badge/etc. Car had a ton of power and after idling out and being in second almost immediately, he hit the gas, blew away the tires, accelerated towards the top, shifted into 3rd, and coasted.

It was dark so I couldn't really get a good look at it. Even the hood had the stupid plexiglass window, and the wheels were the same wheels. The carbon fiber roof would be the give away but it was too dark to tell. I figured he blew the tires and knew he coasted because I almost beat his trap on that run. I just found the visual hilarious, Modded vette, vs a POS Outback wagon....
On another note, I took my cousin who was up from florida for a fast spin in the gta. First time I had that car on a longer hard acceleration run, Definitely 14s...easy maybe 13s. I hit 70 in maybe 7 seconds and I still don't think I had it floored. Better than that Outback thats for sure.
