Yes. There is no slp or asc dealers. All that was mentioned before is that the name wasn't afficially carried on by gm.

the ss nameplate was licensed to slp to modify z28 camaros into ss camaros. they were ordered at gm dealers, and built at gm factories as z28s. then shipped to slp to be modified. then shipped to the customers dealer. all the paperwork the customer signs is with gm. the car is warrentied by gm, replacement parts are bought at gm.. it IS a gm

its not complicated so here we go ...

Somewhere in Canada, Gm made a 99 camaro Z28. Shipped it nextdoor to SLP's temporary facility. SLP put on a hood, rims, exhaust, airbox and some badges that said SS.

The car was sent to a dealer in which a customer bought it. That dealership and many GM ones like it, warranty everything on it. And everyone lived happily and drove the cars and won trophies and bitches ...

Prepare for the brain-**** of this thread....

Sometime in 1999-2000, SLP stopped doing the retrofits and became a Tier 1 supplier, so all hoods, wheels, exhausts and all the rest of the stuff were sent to the St.Therese plant so that it could be built on the line along with the rest of the cars.

SLP Engineering of Michigan, not SLP Performance of Toms River, made the parts and shipped them to the plant like many other Tier 1 suppliers.

As for the OP, a few things:
The rendering your dad sent you is most likely wrong. They are taking information or just plain guessing on what the next Mustang will look like based of Ford's new "One Ford" global design language (aka the Aston face). That's it. At this point, no one outside of a few dozen design people and Ford executives know what the car looks like, and event then, that design isn't set in stone.
New Mustang isn't going to show it's face till January 2014, so there is a lot of time between now and then.
With that said, I like most of the design "ideas" that a few outlets have put out because 1) the One Ford face is beautiful, and 2) they will keep the heritage body cues that they have now and just integrate them into the new design theme.

Chevy is moving away from the dual-port grill and moving to a more "Camaro" like face for some of its vehicles. The new Impala and to a lesser extent, the Traverse, all wear this new face.
Things change, so don't let your panties get caught in a knot.

Al:

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I'm under the impression that SLP was the ones who designed the hoods, mods, etc for the car. Right?

Yes, designed and made. In 96-98 I believe all cars were shipped to SLP for the upgrades, but it wasn't till 99 or 2000 when SLP parts were shipped to the plant for both cars just like any other tier 1 supplier.

Thanks Al.

So yes. 1996-2002 SS cars were not traditional GM trim levels as they were created and executed by SLP.

Further proof is the GM ZL1 and SLP ZL1 cars. Only one is "official". It ain't the SLP version.
