its simply an opinion which is neither right or wrong. you are right that in the 80s things weren't that great quality wise (keep in mind i was born in 85). so i should have worded that a bit differently. i do strongly feel that quality issues in general are lacking these day and people seem to be ok with it. maybe i have high standards. maybe i'm crazy, but i run into this on a daily basis. i work in the home service business and i meet a lot of people. i generally think that the older products are simpler and last longer. don't get me wrong, there are a ton of things that are way better due to the technology that we have today, but the thread isn't titled "what does not grind your gears". so i do stand corrected, 20-30 years may not be the best example. maybe more like form the 50s-70s. even the people had better attitudes.

A recent one I thought of is people that stand too closely when in line at a retail store, or coffee shop, etc. A little personal space is greatly appreciated, and tailgating isn't going to make the line go quicker. Recently, a larger gentleman was behind my fiance and I in a chipotle-style restaurant where you work your way down a line. His belly was nearly touching her and although she was less bothered by it, she saw I was about to explode so she stepped to the side. I just don't understand why...

I think I understand what he is saying. There was a higher level of quality in products, be it tools, cars, appliances, etc. Things from 50+ years ago still work exactly the same today. Things from 5-10 years ago have already been replaced again. There is no lasting quality. I have lots of old power tools from my grandfather and they work perfectly. There was a certain simplicity to things along with quality materials and assembly.

everything is disposable these days. even cars. you get in an accident, it folds right up and you get a new one. thats todays mindset. its always newer, bigger and better. things back in the day were at least designed with longevity in mind. thats no longer an important part of research and development these days.
keeping with the theme of the thread though...

Professional businesses not setting proper expectations regarding turnaround time. If you give me a date, make it happen or give me a call to let me know what's happening. I don't need a daily update but a courtesy call would go a long way.
This extends to customer service in general. It's pretty bad nowadays.

Went to install a new on-car adjustable panhard bar on the bird. Lined it up with the old non-adj aftermarket unit and noticed the factory bolts (shouldered) do not go through the rotojoint. Ok....I will just go get new bolts I guess. Got new bolts, ready to bolt this thing in and noticed the rotojoint is 2.5" in diameter. The space provided by the factory bracket is 2.0".....nice. Left the garage and sent my email to customer service.
