The Pontiac Aztek wasn't ugly, it was ahead of its time

Aside from cringing from the corniness, I can't help but think that those features in a car today would make it sell to today's outdoorsy folk and green-loving hipsters. Cars today are mundane and bland, especially smaller SUVs which are rubber stamped facsimiles of one another. I hold that if the Aztek were released today with more modern amenities and build quality, but retained the features and funky styling, they would have sold more. If my wife's Grand Cherokee had half of those features, I'd have a hard time not stealing the keys from her and making it my own.
Also, if you compare the Aztek's styling to say, the current Jeep Cherokee or current Prius, I think you'll see a ton of styling similarities.

It is def ugly, BUT, I can appreciate car makers trying to break the cookie cutter mold these days.

I get what you are saying and most anyone doing, say an overland build, would add most/all of those features. Its still a turd on wheels. Yes it looks like a giant prius. The cherokee has a similarity front end wise, that being ugly, but not nearly as comparable as the prius. This pos would more directly compete with an element imo and the element is much easier to look at, for an ugly car. Why can't they do fun things with good looking cars????

My buddy's neighbor has his n' hers Azteks. They love 'em. Since I like out of the box cars I always thought they were pretty cool. Styling today is so damn bland and cookie cutter that it's hard to tell cars apart any more.

THAT was the STUFF that Pontiac started to make that took ALL THE WE BUILD EXCITEMENT right down the toilet. They even offered a cargo net extension that came out of the rear hatch so you could sleep outdoors. Don't forget the Dustbuster styled Trans Sport and the Montana Van or the Mazda body Vibe.
