It's pretty amazing to see what we are doing with tech these days. Tesla showed off their new Semi trucks and also their new Tesla Roadster.
The Semi should be a game changer if the financials hold true. The Roadster looks to be an absolute beast. It will be funny to think street racing one day may be just a bunch of whirring noises and a little bit of tire squeal.
0-60 in 1.9
Qtr mile in 8.9
250+ mph top speed
2+2 (barely)
620 mi range at highway speed
Screen goes "plaid" when using full power
$200k+ price tag and not slated to come out until 2020.
Also the Boston Dynamics robot can now do a damn back flip! Love the hands going up afterward.
i feel like whenever he has bad news, etc., he throws out a distraction. Like the new telsa 3 car is waaaaay behind and having all sorts of production issues, layoffs, etc - and what appears to maybe being outsourced to china now. So lets spin over to Puerto Rico, or roll out the long awaiting (and i think also behind schedule) truck. which someone else already has one I think. Could be coincidence, but I feel like this guy would sell us a monorail if he could.
All on our dime.
And the end of cars we love is now on the clock. So there is that.
I want to see one of those crack 250mph - that takes huge power and attention to detail. The Veyron needs 1000hp and destroys a set of tires in the process, can't see this being any different if it is even possible.
As with anything Tesla, big promises waiting for technology and production to catch up with his promises. He's also great at running a company that loses money, yet the stock price is based on hype and speculation.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I think it's awesome and am excited to see what the future holds. Competition only pushes everyone to up their game. If you asked me 5-10 years ago, I'd have said you were crazy to think of 700, 800, 1000hp production cars on dealer lots... I thought we'd be seeing nothing but Prius/Volt-like commuter cars at every traffic light. Love that manufactures are still dumping money into performance

It's the tech jockey smugness that pisses me off.
Look at all the cool **** we can do, we're so much better than you OLD companies and your greedy old fashioned thinking.
Meanwhile
Do not question or business structure, our financials, safety record, build quality, or lack of flexibility. Otherwise you're a hater who can't SEE THE FUTURE.
Truth is that you cannot run a car company like a pure tech company - nor can old car company business models work in this age. That is the problem with Musk - he has all these ideas and even the best ones are heavily flawed - yet no one really calls him out on them.
