One issue is that the airbags on 4th gens break the windshield when the deploy (great design). I also heard of some people having the airbags deploy at the track. But these are cars that hooked hard enough to lift the front wheels.
So if you plan to run slicks and hook, remove the air bags. I'm in the process of removing mine, and like Fred I have a 5 point harness so I'm not worried about getting thrown to the wheel or windshield.

That they fuggin' do... and then you not only need a new dash, but a new windshield. Sucks even MORE when th seatbelt did the job fine and you weren't moving and they deploy... one punching you in the face and leavinga rash and the other destroying your dash and windshield.

There is a company that makes a replacement cover for the steering wheel when you take out the airbag but their name escapes me right now. my airbags are still in for now but not hooked up. why? because my car is a 93 and has gen 1 airbags, which are NOT the advanced systems in cars today. with the age on my car and historically known problems with first gen air bag systems the possibility of having the airbag go off when Im driving down the road and hit a huge bump is quite high. Anyone remember way back in the day when there were all kinds of law suits over airbags deploying for no reason or because of a slight bump? my cousins went off in his 94 Impala when he was parking it and it broke his nose. My seat belt is always on and pulled tight and with my seat all the way back theres no way im putting my face into the windshield (especially on a 4th gen) or into the steering wheel unless Im in a catastrophic accident and then thats the least of my worries.
