DZ 302 Camaro - 0.10 hp/lbs. ( w/ 400hp and 3,765 lbs.)

I love weight talk. a race trim z28 is probably closer to 3200 lbs. it's longer & wider too, I'd guess and that should help on a road course, at least to offset some of the weight. To be apples to apples let's estimate a basic race trim z28 with a far more reliable drive train
600hp / 3200 = 0.1875 hp/lbs
550 / 3200 = 0.1719
huh.
vega has a half decent suspension for racing. not sure what the opel has or how easy it is to get parts. can you even get parts for it? you cannot overlook the entire package in the single name of weight.
plus it would be silly to take apart a good cosworth vega. it's a cool little car.
I'd rather build a mustang II with an LS motor in it. put some stickies on it and some other stuff and go racing. far better than an old opal and a troublesome cosworth motor. An ecotech, a honda vtec or hell even a full built quad 4 is better. I can think out of the box. But you have to identify the bad, more expensive, albeit maybe 'cooler' boxes lol
different can be cool. the cosworth vega is cool. a fiero with a northstar or lsx for instance. it can be stupid too, like a 3rd gen with 24s on it, one with a turbo 2.8L.
I'll take cubic displacement for $500 Alex.

Well then Bonzo, lets do this, go buy, or build an authentic DZ Z28, Ill build my Cozy Opel, and see which one is better. Numbers are numbers really, until you put them to the test. Then, when were done, we'll put our bills together of what it cost, and see which one was more bang for you buck.

i bet I can build a solid 302 cheaper than a solid cosworth!
302 is proven, parts are ample, as is knowledge.
hey, school us. show us how to build that motor and costs. I'll give all props on it.
what if we put my 600hp SBC into that opal!

It would probably tear in half. In fact, it would be looney tune style, where the front half stays still, but the back half would spin like a propeller

Back in da day there were lots of V8 powered Opals being put together, mostly as drag cars. I'd like to see one done up with a hi-po 4 cylinder.
Hey, whatever floats your boat. Different is cool. I want a Viper, was ready to look at Chargers, and ended up with a Caliber SRT4, lol.

Found another little gem. I'd rebuild this, and stuff a 331cu Hemi with a 4 speed to her, and have a blast at vintage festivals.....oh and make it road legal!
