The problem with not buying gas, is that you'll still need it at a later date, so sales will slump one week, and spike the next. The real solution is to not have to rely on gas. Buy a diesel car or truck, like an old Mercedes, Jetta, Passat, or truck, and make your own biodiesel for 50-70 cents per gallon. Ef the oil companies by making it yourself. You dont want to pay $5 a gallon? Show them that.

Yea, but the government in some states is starting to meddle with people who are making their own biodiesel, since they aren't paying a fuel tax. Not to mention the fact that there is only so much french fry oil to go around.

Don't take that the wrong way - I would love to be in the financial position to be able to buy an older diesel car and make my own fuel. We just can't rely on it as a whole.

I think more people should be buying diesel vehicles one way or another. Sure the price is higher, but with the mileage increase it helps to cancel that out (and then some).

Yeah, that makes sense! Throw in a dmax and pay $5.00 a gal. for diesel fuel(that's just today's price)then start to realize that if you write a $1,000 ticket all your commission goes into your gas tank WEEKLY! Like I said last week when LUKOIL was CHEAP @ $3.17, there now CHEAP @ $3.39 and so it goes until this Thursday when it goes up again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again!!!!!!!!!: WTF IS THE CAP ON THIS ****. I'am now driving at 60 mph(and getting my best gas ever)but how much can I keep coming up with ideas to reduce my costs. Coasting, drafting, no A/C on, keep windows closed to reduce drag, syntech oil, air pressure up your tires and whatever. I just read that FLOUR(baking goods)went from $6.00 a pound to $20.00 a pound and that's just a SMALL sample of what these fuel prices are doing to everyone. Hell, just going to a car show in PA and back might cost you over $60.00 for fuel and tolls, plus the cost of the show itself. How many of us can shallow that and enjoy going too far out. This is a MAJOR CRISIS that effects everyone and we are helpless to do anything about it. BY THE WAY, THE OIL COMPANIES ARE TO THE LEFT OF THIS ICON AND GUESS WHO WE ARE!

dude PLEASE get your facts straight.. 20/lb for flour? that's a little extreme
while it has skyrocketed considerably, you shouldn't be making up numbers

Diesel is *only* about $4.20 - $4.50 / gallon, and the mileage increase would be huge. Of course, the cost of the D-Max and the swap mean that it would take a while to break even.

My brother laughs when people say things to him like "Bet you wish you didn't get that diesel truck now, huh?", and then their jaws hit the floor when he tells them his '05 Dodge Ram 3500 crew cab, 8' bed, behemoth of a truck is getting 23-24mpg on the highway (18-19 around town) without him even trying. Try getting half of that in the same truck with any of the gas motors they offer (which all have way less power).

Diesel may be more expensive than it should be just like gas, but the increase in mileage in most cases more than makes up for the higher fuel cost.

Sorry about the wording and MAKING up numbers, but I HOPE you get the point dude. On the cover of the Star-Ledger the quote SHOULD have been that a "22 pound bag of flour that cost $6.00 a year ago now costs more than $20.00". That's ONLY ABOUT FOUR TIMES more and climbing. Very soon we will not have to make up crazy numbers, the ECONOMY will do it for us!!!!!!!!!!
