New Cam-only LS1 record

Check it out over at LS1tech. Â*Magnus and 01-Z both ran 10.295 @ 128.48. Â*That's right! Â*The exact same ET and mph. Â*I can't wait to see what these cars do in the fall. This cam-only thing is getting pretty competitive. Hmm... Does Little G have to choke a bitch?

i know keiths car has a SD tune in it...and there are pics of his car on the net...he ran 10.9@125ish stock internal...i would assume its a 3 speed since he's launching off a transbrake unless he swapped to a 700r4...i assume hes got rockers as well and i know on his 10.9 run it was on open headers so figure the same this time.

Wow,that's incredible and extreme to say the least.isnt there a class in NHRA for his type of car where they run like a stock class and he can get the recognition for his hard work?

Yea, he swapped in a 350/400 trans shortly after installing the cam, IIRC.

Cam only is a bit of a joke in describing the cars though. Yeah it's impressive what they've done with the stock short block, but there are quite a few mods besides the cam.

yah but jeff to nearly run a 9 with stock heads, no blower, no turbo, no nitrous, stock cubes(346), stock bottom end, stock compression...i would think thats a feat in itself.

I agree, very impressive times for what they've done, but I agree with Jeff, they should change the name to 'short block only' because that's the only thing they haven't changed

well technically keith would loose that as well since his car started out as a v6...there comes a point where you just have to get down to the nitty gritty of it all...otherwise it would be fastest stock headed, stock bottom end junkyard motored, fbody, with a 12 bolt and gearing over 3.73, blah blah blah...everyone that cares about the record knows what hes running and knows how he got there. A true cam only car apparently between the two of you are with stock manifolds, catback, full interior, stock 10 bolt, stock tranny/converter....and it would probably run a mid 13 lol.

Well think about it, George Baxter was running 8's with the original LT1 block in his car. But that is completely deceiving since the it had all kinds of modified parts bolted to that block. Almost running in the 9's with a stock short block is impressive, but so much of the car is modified that saying cam only doesn't mean squat. What's the curb weight, what trans, what rear, what programming, what fuel system, what exhaust, etc? The LS1 heads were designed to flow better than any Chevrolet configuration ever made. So instead of saying cam only, they should say stock block and heads.

and what im saying is technically he doesnt have the stock block or heads...keith had a v6 origonally...im not sure where your coming from jeff they tied for the fastest cam only, meaning the only internal engine mod was a new cam, ls1 powered car...not deceiving in any way shape or form from my standpoint and thousands of others.

I'm just saying that "cam only" sounds like there are no other mods done to the car. When in reality every piece of the car/engine/suspension is modified except the heads/block. So why not say "stock heads/block" instead of "cam only".

On www.ls1tech.com when everyone refers to "cam only" there is an unstated undersstanding that there are EXTENSIVE mods complimenting these cars.

The suspension, weight reduction, tranny etc mods are understood.

Later,

Santos

the reason they say "cam only" is because thats the only mod that isn't a "bolt on". They are refering to how many internal mods have been performed, and in this case it would be "cam only". does that make a little more sense?

Since I've never been to LS1tech.com until I read that thread, I had no idea what "car speak" they were using. But I guess that's easier than saying "NA with stock heads". The LS1 heads are awesome heads so it doesn't surprise me that they have the cars running that fast. It's pretty amazing both guys ran the exact same times/speed. It would be interesting to see a complete list of their mods. I watched Bryan Loo run a 10.58 with his 99 SS with a 125 shot but he has a 6 speed compared to the automatic so that's some impressive driving. Even with the 125 shot he has a lot less mods than those guys.

gto?vette?fbody? stock tires? there have been vettes & fbodies in the high 12's stock everything ...i assume mid to high 12's would be about as good as it gets cam only with no tuning.

Is this "cam only" ET record an actual NHRA or IHRA racing class? Just curious because I have never heard of it before.
