opinions needed

Suppose I get the Mustang looking nice and throw the rebuilt heads on there and fix the tranny lines. How much do you think I could get for it? I have fenders for it, I just need to fix the header panel or get a new one. then I'm gonna get the body as straight as I can and get it painted as cheaply as possible with it still coming out looking nice. So final condition is straight body, motor runs great and trans lines dont leak. What do you think? All input welcome. I need to get rid of this thing so I can get another F body.

1) Does it run now?
2) Do you owe anything on it?

If you answered yes to 1 and 2... then keep it!

Drive it and enjoy it!

Fox body's (replacement parts and aftermarket) are nice and cheap.

yes it runs as we type. I don't owe anything on it though, so I kinda want to fix it up and sell it.

If it is a 5.0 (and I am assuming it is) I'd keep it. Best Engine Ford ever made IMO (excluding big blocks of course!) and parts cost nothing. Very reliable. And, don't chastise me too bad for saying this, it will beat the balls off of a 305 F-body. I know an awful lot of low 12 fox bodies that just swapped the top end. Depending on the year some came stock with forged internals. I'd fix it up like you want and see if you like it. If you like it keep it for awhile, if not you could probably get about $1500-$2000 for it.

Depends on who you sell it too. Â*A high school teenager who is looking for cheap speed, wont give you much, but also wont be looking for a perfect car. Â*Someone who's a Mustang enthusiast, looking for an 80's restoration or street racer, might pay more, but for something thats in great condition.

Is there a middle market? Â*Yeah, probably the late 20's, early 30- somethings who are ready for something fun AND a daily driver for their commute (kinda like you). Â*Fix it up so it looks and drives nice, but leaves room for improvement so the price isnt too high.

EDIT: Doh, didnt suggest a price. Probably around $1500 for that middle market works well. Find an enthusiast, and they might pay a little more.

If it was a 5-speed I think you would have a better asking price, most mustang nuts I know are very picky when it comes to having a 5-speed. Mostly because the drivetrain is practically bullet proof. I'd take it off your hands for 1k right now. Their is just something sexy about LX's and Notchback Five-Oh's

imo you should swap in a 5-speed before selling it...it'll bring your asking price up ALOT

however let me know. My buddy just sold his 94 GT Convertible and wants a fox body. 5 Speed is what to do man, if you want to keep it let me know cause i know of some good combos on them to make some great power. Take it easy.

I've seen ( as recently as tuesday) these "bullet proof" 5-speeds blow up quite easily. If your making any real power( 400+ hp), a c-6 is the way to go. NO ONE can shift as fast as an automatic!!!

QFT about automatic shifting. And with shift kits, its even better.

Personally I tried sitting in a 91 Mustang 5.0 5 speed. Couldnt drive it cause my legs were too long and couldnt clutch

Yes the stock 5-speeds are rather weak. Also, the sbf's short rod (because of short deck height) is another down side as far as high horsepower durability. Oh, not to mention the whole cracking the block in half problem . Sure they move but they can't be made into 500+hp monsters without spending $$$ over the similarly built chevy.
About the automatic shifting being faster but they also tend to rob more horsepower. I've argued this in the past but for 13 second cars and slower you're better off with a manual, faster than that and if you've got big sticky tires, the auto is for you. Just look at the history of drag racing to find the answers.

I guess if all I could get for it would be 2K at the most then I'll hang on to it for a while. I'll probably do the 5 speed swap when the money shows up . I'm definitly gonna get rid of the cowl hood and put the tail pipes back on. I guess if I take my time fixing it up I could get more money for it. I suppose thats the new plan.

thanks for the input guys. Alex, I dont think you should give me 1K for it, I bought it for 800 and I havent done anything to it yet. And steve, thats a hell of a lowball offer! tempting, but I'm gonna have to wait to see if I can get more.
