WEel its late and im bored, so ive decided to ask if we got any pilots here? besides me of course? So how about it? 8)

Helz yea, home base is Teterboro. I haven't had much time to get up this summer so I'm a bit rusty. Currently cert'd Comm, HP, class B, night VFR, mountain.

My Class 3 ran out about twelve years ago. Havent been up since. I'll spare you the wife-and-kids-have-no-money shtick.

Besides, my new hobby is the Trans Am. You don't need wings to fly.

I wonder what Newark would think about several Cessna's or Cubs flying in near formation over New Jersey? We'd probably get shot down.

I've had to fly through Newark airspace many times. If you screw up just once, they can pull your license, and that's like flying more than 100' above/below what they tell you, go off heading, or slower/faster than they tell you. You've gotta be awake and aware when dealing with class B.

Many moons ago when I was taking lessons in South Florida, I used to do touch and go's at Ft lauderdale International. I can't count the number of times they re-routed me in the pattern because my little 152 was too slow. Ft Lauderdale was the first time I landed under full power. Decided to tie down for an hour at the executive side of the airport and have a drink to calm down. After a few more of those I no longer enjoyed the thrill of landing on an 8000 ft runway, and aimed at places like Pahokee, Arcadia, Venice and Lakeland.

Flew out of Boca Raton, btw. Great place to learn, though it was an uncontrolled airport at the time. Then after enjoying an obvious coastline and relatively narrow state to fly over, I went to school in Indiana and really had to rely on the VOR. Man, every corn field in that state looked the same. After a year of that I just let my Class 3 run out and finished school. Havent been in a plane since.

I fly out of Daytona Beach international. Its Charlie airspace, which isnt that bad, but Orlando is close enough (bravo). I've been there a few times it wasnt that bad, i dont think. I guess it all depends on where you get your training and what you get use to doing.

haha, I hear ya on stressful touch and go's. I used to always love to fly up to Stewart NY and do them there until one day me and my friend Jeff were going in circles when over the radio we heard three pilots come on saying they wanted to do some t-n-g's as well. We were like 'ok, no big deal, it's an 11k foot runway, we can all stay in the patern' yea, until we saw what they were flying. Three Marine F/A-18 Hornets showed up and wanted to do some practicing with us. The tower would have none of that as my tiny ass Piper Warrior's top speed was slower than the F-18's stall speed. Needless to say I got stuck doing endless 360's to the south while the fighters got to go around a few times. It wasn't all bad though, we got to watch three F-18's fly around at 1000' AGL. That's a perspective you don't see everyday.

haha sounds like fun. I bet we all got some good stories to share. But for some reason i cant remember any good once. Well except from the early days when i was just learning and landgings werent so smooth!

my parents are both licensed pilots with Civil Air Patrol and have brought me up and while im not great i can taxi, takeoff, fly a VOR route, and land without killing anyone...but i have never started any official flight training

Now you just gotta learn, diversions, slow flight, 2 stalls, and i think you'll be ready to go for a Part 61 exam and get your lisence. Well if you have enough time and cross country hours! DO IT!!!!

For your Private I think it's also 10 hours of night flight. That's easy though if you don't like flying at night. Just go up to Morristown and do t-n-g's for an hour a day at sunset and you'll have it done in two weeks. I suggest Morristown because the tower people are usually cool, they have a very flat smooth runway, not too busy, very well lit, long and wide runway, and you'll be either arriving or departing over an open field depending on weather.

Ohh yea i forogt about the night hours. I love flying at night, everything looks so cool. And the air here is so calm its just a nice time to fly.

BWAHAHAHA.... um, no. I AM the FBI. ::nods::

I think my most thrilling ride was my three point cross country. Halfway through it just about the entire state of Florida ends up under one giant storm. Imagine that. So I'm stuck at Lakeland, checking with Orlando by phone every thirty minutes for a window, when they finally said there was limited VFR below 2000 AGL (Florida is essentially flat).

I head south, just nick the corner of restricted airspace (cant recall the name, but its north of the lake), end up in the middle of the state over swamp land, before checking in with Miami via radio. They advise IFR conditions and I'm already up in the air with no place to land. So I drop to 500 feet so I can see where the hell I am, find some railroad tracks and follw them roughly eastward back towards Boca Raton.

As I emerge from the center of the state to civilization (anyone who has flown Florida knows that canal that runs north - south) and climb back up to 2000 feet, the sky opens up to the squal line headed east towards the ocean. Thick black clouds... and hellacious cross winds. My Cessna is bouncing all over the place, my map falls into the footwell of the passanger seat and the passanger seat belt flops all over the place, almost clocking me in the head. I dropped 300 feet with the snap of a finger from a downdraft and clutched the yoke like it was a life raft.

Climbing again, I made it out of the wind and out from beneath the clouds to super brilliant sunshine, shaking like a leaf, knuckles white as milk, while trying to keep my voice calm enough to advise Miami that I altered the flight plan - there was no way in hell I was heading to Naples in that weather.

As I look back on it, it was a great experience. Surviving that was the biggest thrill I had flying.

I don't have a license, but I know how to fly. Friend of mine's father owns a Piper Cherokee II.

Steve, I didn't know you were a pilot!!! Cool.

Sadly, I am not a pilot. I fly for a living, but pilot.....nope. I know enough to fly a KC-10 if I had to though.

Heh, Im in exactly the same boat as Jon, excpet not in the whole Civil Air Patrol, Ive been following my dad to EAA meetings since I was 6, Flying has always been something Ive loved, but when cars came into the picture, flying took the bench seat. Ive been talking about going ahead with training for almost 2 summers now, but I honestly do not have the time or money to set aside to do the work. If anything I was going to go towards the new "Sports Pilot" Lisencing since I really dont plan on doing anything more then flying local in a smaller airplane.

I would be based @ Lincon Park BTW. If I wanted to move to Puerto Rico, I would fly out of Augudilla or Arecibo airport (North West Corner of PR)

(Anyone want to buy a Skylite Kit-Plane? Theirs one in my garage taking up alot of room)

Sims are WAY harder then real planes. i can fly a plane good but put me in microsoft flight sim an i become dumb again. Theres no feeling in the sim so i hate it. 8)

Wow I'm surprised anyone else has ever heard of Civil Air Patrol. I was really big into it when I was in high school... made it up to Cadet Captain.
