Rejoice South! We're getting a new racetrack!!!!!
Im sure some of you have heard but i just found out in the courier yesterday. they had an article saying that the final lawsuit is settled and the construction will commence soon after some public hearings. in Millville, next to the airport in Cumberland county, they are building a massive racetrack/commercial complex called Thunderbolt Raceway. there will be a 4.1 mile road race course, and oval track, off road vehicle track, go kart track, garages, villas, hotels, restaurants and other commercial properties. they have a picture of an aerial veiw and it looks badass. its an honest to god road race course with lots of twists, turns, and straights and it looks awesome, they just better have open track days.

with the way government works and the public hearings yet to be held, i would expect it to be open for business in '08. i'm actually surprised to find this out. the street racing scene in the millville area has been going on for years and it's nice to know they are finally going to try to put an end to it by building a track. there are tons of cars down there and you know initially it will draw people from all over the state. not to mention if it becomes a sanctioned NHRA (etc.) track it will bring in national events as well.
way cool.

do any of the articles say when teh public hearsings are going to be held? a little grass roots support would go a long way for somethign like this.
i will try to compile info on why race tracks are good for the area and the econmy and we can get that info to the local government to help them make the right decision.

If i remember right, and this is from me reading the article last year about it. There isn't a drag racing strip just the oval course but maybe they have updated the plan to add one I will find the new article and find out. coldkilla might be able to answer too.

Sounds like a good dilly-o!
I'd love to get out on a road course and get all "Mark Donohue" on some imports!

millville is surprisingly easily swayed by public opinion.
back in the '80s, the cable company decided to dump Mtv and put one of those pay-per-play video shows on instead. i gathered up as many people as i could, told everyone to bring a friend and we filled their meeting room. there were people standing on the outside of the chaired section, and even had people squating in the aisles we had so many people there.
i spoke up, as did three or four of my better-spoken friends (no "ums", "ers" or "like, you know" in our presentation - we tried to appear intelligent ). our main premise was that we were paying the cable company and our opinion in what they carried should be heard. they were up for renewal with their contract with the city and it was a ten year contract. i told the city council that if the cable company can't respond to their customer's wishes, then maybe we should get a different cable company. one week later the contract was ratified and Mtv was back on the air.
so, yeah, showing support for this track at the public hearings is an awesome idea and it might push those on the fence over to the side to let it happen. public safety should be number one and benefit to the community's economy should support that. i am sure the racetrack's interests would appreciate us showing up to support them.

This may be good news for you guys but I live RIGHT by the airport... Ya know how those people buy houses by E-town THEN complain about the noise? What about us folks who have lived there for 20 years in peace-n-quiet?
Not to mention according to their building plans they'll ruin my favorite road to STREET race on

Hopefully it won't go down. Maybe you can sell it to a race fan .
Serously, how are property values near E-town?

Thought I should post the responce I got from them about asking them to have a drag strip.
Dear JW,
Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately we have no plans at the present time to construct a drag strip, mostly resulting from noise concerns and our proximity to Atco. Hopefully we will be able to cater to another aspect of your motorsports interest (i.e.) stuff that turns. Thanks.
PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO SENDER. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION EMAIL INFO@NJMOTORSPORTSPARK.COM OR VISIT OUR WEBSITE.

What I dont understand is that the noise can't be that big of an issue if they are going to build a motorsports race track, you don't think those things are going to be loud?! But yea you have a point with the noise restrictions and as for their concers with being in a close proximity of Atco is just stupid in my mind. I mean Atco is approx. 61 miles from Etown. So this new place will be approx. 40miles from Atco... its all just a big pain in the ass in my mind.

I agree, are they not goint to allow cars to run on there tracks that have something like a loudmouth or just longtubes with muflers? If they are like that then this place is just one big waste of money, all thought its gonna be a sick place when its done. I think if they have the extra land in the long run and they get enough votes or something along that line for a drag strip then it will be put in, hell it seems like they have the money for it i think the place is what 600+ acres my dad told me.

yeah atco is not far so i really dont care that they dont have a strip. im more interested in what they are offering. road courses and professional driving schools. they are few and far between in this neck of the country.
