Little pissed right now...and some good news
Im applying for Hagerty Insurance right now, and it says I need to have at least 5 years of driving under my belt. Well guess whos 1.5 months short? Yeah...kinda pissed right now. I wanted to go to DMV tomorrow and get it all done, drive it to the trucks, but noooooooooooooo.
It also says that if you are under 5 years, you have ot have a clean record. Well as of 2 weeks ago, I dont. I was caught speeding on the parkway. Court date isnt untill the 17th of December, and I want to see if I can just have the points taken away and pay a heavy fine...just what I need for Christmas time.
In good news, no I didnt go look at Geico, so I dont know if I would save any money, but at $383 a year (!!!) for the 72 through Hagerty, I doubt I would. The good news is that Summit and Jegs are over priced and that I can get parts much cheaper through Advance Auto. There regular price is lower then Summit for everything I want to do or have done for the 72. I was very impressed. It also helps to have your girlfriend work there to make the price difference much greater. I will be ordering all my stuff through them, and I advise that if you guys buy stuff through summit, to check out your local Advance Auto first. They might be dumb as a door nail, but you can easily find the part number off Summit or the manufacture's website, and just make sure its the same one that Advance is ordering. They deal with every large parts company out there as they are the 2nd largest parts store in the US.
Anyway, carry on. Im upset that I will not be bringing the 72 up to the Trucks, but now that the gf has her TA, I might see if she wants to come out again.

if it's your first offense then they will most likely wipe the points depending on how fast you were going, just make sure you go in presentable (I always have gone in a suit minus jacket, nice shoes, and being the most presentable and therefore "respectful" prosecutors have noted that and even thanked me, since veryone else is in jeans and a tshirt). It sucks but kissing ass a little bit could help you, take advantage of the corrupt system lol. Be prepared to pay a hefty fee though thanks to our NJ govenment if you plea bargain for no points.

this is horrible. only NJ insurance could ruin a great event like the 72.

What kind of coverage were you trying to get through Haggerty? My 68 with the LT1 was only around $250 a year with an agreed value of $12,000. And they hassled me big time about my brother getting a speeding ticket because he lived in the same house(that's a NJ thing that all insurance companies have to deal with) even though he would never be driving the car. Al, gives these guys a call and see what they say
Collector car insurance

whoaaaaaaa...you mean that someone in your house can affect you from getting the insurance?? ****, my brorther has smashed up 5 cars in a year or so. WTF!!!
Just another reason why there should be insurance on the PERSON driving the car, not the car itself.
I cant belive that ****. Even if the car is in my name, I have the only sets of keys, and I will kill him on site if he drives it without me in the passanger seat?

No, they are not collectors. You can register it as a Collectors car, which confines you to 3k miles a year, but you dont have to go through inspection. Several people have it that I know of, and had it on my 87.

You do have to go through inspection but all they do is make sure you have tread on your tires, that your speedo and odometer work, and that all the lights function. But you are restricted to 3,000 miles.

Al, my insurance through Hagerty on my 79 was only 168/year. But yes, you have to list every driver in your household even if they will never ever take it out. My mom wouldnt touch my camaro for anything, but had to list her. Just the way it works. I think the 5 years exp is new with them. i had it when I was 20 or 21 and dont remember anything bout having a clean license. Good luck with the insurance.

Yeah, my brother got a speeding ticket and the first collector insurance company denied me coverage because of it. Haggerty made me sign a letter saying I would be the only driver before they gave me coverage. If you go with QQ plates, there's no inspection but it's very limited on when and where you can drive it. The collector insurance company doesn't even want you driving it to 7-11 or Dunkin Donughts. You'll never get collector's insurance with your brother's record. You might have to go with regular insurance and regular tags and inspection.
