I just deleted 30 gigs of crap off my comp...
deleted a bunch of progs, all my movies (now on cd's), deleted all folders that the progs made (that i could find), used regcleaner and then manually deleted stuff i know i dont have anymore, im running diskkeeper now...anything else i should do?
and one more question: how much space do you guys allot to system restore space?

0 ive never used it in my life.. i'd recommend turning off system restore, hibernation and drive indexing. when i switched to linux i "stored" about 30 or 40 gb of just windows crap that i had i tried compressing everything, then eventually burned the stuff i wanted to keep. one thing that kinda pissed me off was one of my hobbies was building windows unattended cds, i compressed the folder and made sure everything was ok (verified the RAR) then i burned it to a dvd (it was around 4 gigs) and it wouldnt open, a little mad i tried to extract it under linux, no go luckily i have the unfinished "test" cds so if i ever wanna get back into it i have a place to start... after moving to linux i relized how many BS applications you had to run in order to keep windows running (semi) smoothly, out of all those 30+gb of downloads i deleted ill say around 5-10gb was all windows "fix" tools, for linux the only thing i run (ocasionally) is a program that deletes junk files.... now the most i give to windows is 5 gb the rest goes to /home, / , /media/movies, and /media/storage (random storage)
heres a list of things i would usually do in windows about once a week or so:
set diskeeper to screensaver mode (or defrag it atleast once a week)
run a reg cleaner
run a program to get rid of junk files (system mechanic is good for this)
run hitman pro (great program for removal of spyware, its 95% automated and runs around 9 different spyware removal tools, highly recommended)
a full virus scan (couldnt hurt)
throw darts at a picture of Bill Gates

Actually, what you COULD do is direct yourself to www.downloads.com and type in "Adaware" in the search bar, download that, install it, and update your definitions and run a full system scan. This program works wonders. First time I used it I got rid of 560+ spyware!!! (non p0rn related either). Its also a great program to have if u use LimeSpyer (lol I mean LimeWire) ... just run it twice a week and your set.
Also, if you just "deleted" programs, go to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs, and make sure you wipe them from your computer entirely.
I just went through the entire refurbishing system with a comp I got... Ad-aware, Firefox, and regular maintenence is key. Thats just my 2 cents

hitman pro includes ad-aware and each time you run hitman it updates the defs for ALL of the programs it runs. i have some of the paid programs if you guys want them (might not be too new since i havent used windoze in months) or i could tell you how to register them. did i just say that? i meant i could tell you where to buy them legally at a very very very low price

This reminds me of my fathers computer... he got a Dell to help build his credit... and he kept getting these virus's ... so now 90% of his online computer time is dedicated to keeping virus's off his computer like running Nortons System Works, Adaware, and all that other mumbo jumbo lame crap... the other 10%?? Playing Solitare or Duke Nukem LOL

another reason why linux > windoze and that sounds liek my dad too, only he didnt get his to build credit, he got his cuz 1) he had the money 2)hasnt bought a new computer in 10 years. so he bought the XPS Gen 4 and mxed it out, and he doesnt even play games! but he does spend about 50% of his time cleanin out all that nasty crap (virii/spyware/junk files/etc..)

Eric, sounds like you have most of your cleanup bases covered. If you haven't already, turn off system restore on all drives. It usually causes more trouble than it's worth.
As far as the Mac issue goes, I like them. I just think they are crazy for charging eleventy billions dollars for them. If I had the cash there would be a G5 sitting on my desk next to my other two machines.

macs are useless though if you dont do anything with multimedia
linux still owns all in the stability/security/no house keeping area

serious for a sec: i went into all of my MP3 folders and deleted out all of the redundant file folders and all of the album art. not sure what the final tally was, but it was using a considerable amount of space.
