				Locks froze this morning

I guess due to all the rain yesterday and then the temp dropping last night. I got off of work this morning, went to the car & tried to unlock the door. The key wouldn't turn. Tried lock de icer with no luck. I work at the Sheriff's Dept so I borrowed a slim jim. The locks were so frozen it wouldn't move. So I used the slim jim to unlock the tops and got in that way! The doors were so frozen I had to climb in. The windows were frozen shut and the lock wouldn't even slide to the unlock position. After the car warmed up everything worked. Anyone else have this problem in winter?

Wow, that's bad... mine have actually never gotten frozen, maybe once or twice 2 winters ago, but my doors always get frozen shut and I have to pull real hard or if it's too bad go in the other side and kick the door open lol. when I went to give my mom a ride to work around 7:45 this morning tho my key wouldnt even go in or turn at first but iw as able to force it with a little elbow grease

Yeah last night I went to check on my car and the door was frozen and didnt want to close right after I got it open. The actual door lock wasn't the problem, it was the entire door! It happened all the time with my old 3rd gen.

no problems with my denali, i think my SS did it once like 2 years ago. The best thing about ice on cars is seeing idiots throw hot water on their windows to melt the ice, while working at my old job, we used to work on many enterprise rental cars and durign the winters so many cars would need rear and front glass. lol

Don't go forcing the door open if it's frozen or you'll be buying new weatherstripping. My 93 Pace Car had the doors frozen a couple of times after rain and then freezing overnight. After 2 times I remembered to go out and dry the door jambs after the rain was done if the temp was gonna go below 32. Never had a problem after that. No problems with my 4Runner this morning but then I don't bother locking that half the time.

			Here is a tip.
If you have a lighter..... heat up the key a bit.... then insert into lock and let the heat do its magic.... then turn in lock
Obviously don't do it if you have a computer chip in the key!!!!

If your door itself is sticking on cold mornings, clean the inside lip of the door (where it contacts the weatherstripping) and also wipe down the weatherstripping. This should help keep it from "freezing shut".

Make sure you keep the weatherstripping "refreshed" with like armorall or something similar..if you keep it oily it will be hard for it to freeze to the body. I used to have the problem with the iroc, then I remembered to clean the weatherstrippig and door post and everything and didn't have anymore problems. The T-bird doesn't have any problems either.

the locks froze on my datsun 280zx on two occasions. the first time, i tried using a heat gun on the lock for a few minutes. but even after it started smoking from i guess rubber melting/burning, the key still didn't turn. i finally got smart enough to climb in through the hatch since that lock was fine and thats what i did from there on

I used to have to climb in through the hatch on my '85 Omni. The driver's door lock was busted and the other three doors had broken handles. I miss that car....
